Towers, this year, is historically awful. If he does get back into the rotation he has a reasonably good chance of having the worst season as pitcher has ever had.
Rusch is an interesting comparison because the two players have pitched the same number of innings, more or less; Towers has 45, Rusch 45 and two thirds.
Towers has allowed eight more runs.
Towers had a decent year last year, so the Jays brain trust awarded him a two year, $5.2 million deal even though he wasn’t a free agent and would not have made more money through arbitration. The thing is, every intelligent fan was screaming “Fluke! Fluke! It was a fluke season!” He’d never really pitcehd well before, he’s a soft tosser who doesn’t strike many guys out, and he was visibly lucky last year. His collapse was wholly predictable.
Wow, and I thought they were dumb for throwing all that money at A.J. Burnett.
Rusch, by the way, continued his streak of pitching like crap against teams not named the St. Louis Cardinals today by giving up 4 runs in 1.2 innings against Detroit.
So cool, the aging long time Yankee, Bernie Williams just won another game for us. In other news, A-Rod continues to look lost and without clue.
Philly got clobbered by Tampa but the Mets and Atlanta lost.
Will Philly hang it up and start trading some players?
I think they will look for a new home for the overpriced Abreu. 13.6m this year and 15m next year plus a 2million buyout for the following.
I understand Reggie Sanders could be had for a bag of balls. Anyone else hear this? He is being paid $5m this year and is due 5m next year.
They’re gonna have a hard time getting rid of Abreu without paying part of that. He’s in his age 32 season, plays defense like old people screw and strikes out 120+ times a year.
Reggie can be had for a bag of balls because he’s old and a Royal. He’s proven that the injuries from last season haven’t slowed him down considerably, but he’s still in the twilight of his career and not a high OBP guy.
Well, last year had some fantastic pitching and good defense. This year has had mediocre-to-bad pitching and terrible defense. Throw in some seriously erratic hitting and ta-dah!
On the other hand, I’m still having fun. That which does not kill you makes you a stronger Indians fan.
The Dodgers are never going to survive if we have any more of these marathons. 15 innings in Oakland, and still no end in sight. Bases loaded in the 13th and we couldn’t put it away.
I need more Tiger t-shirts. The two I have are getting pretty worn out already. It’s nice to be able to wear them with pride instead of a sense of irony.
Sidney “DUI” Ponson is being moved to the bullpen, and while they won’t announce it officially yet, his spot will be taken by none other than A-Rey himself.
Sir Sid’s conditioning is crap, to the point that he’s gassed after 5 innings, so making him a middle reliever could pay off.
We’re down to the wire now, folks. Magic numbers are being bandied about. Did your team pull thru? or disappoint yet again?
Personally, I’m a very happy puppy
Mets fan here. We’re very uncomfortable with being this far ahead. And the rest of their NL, in their rush to have every team except the Pirates finish as close to .500 as possible, doesn’t seem like much of a threat. So I have to invent stuff to fret about. Like Pedro, Glavine, and El Duque all getting injured after the postseason roster is set and Julio Franco ends up starting Game 3 of the World Series just for the heck of it.
