Every major league team has an on-field trainer. What are the qualifications for this job? I don’t think any of them are MD’s (maybe I’m wrong) but I am guessing that they are paramedic trained? or EMT’s? or just the guy who tends to bruises and sprains.
Well, there is schooling for trainers. At my university it is a physical therapy degree within the Exercise Science department. Every varsity athletic team has one or more PT students usually with one faculty member. The main services they provide to the team are in injury prevention and treatment, i.e. massage, taping, stretching, whirlpool, rehab, etc.
