I believe the Angels serve Der Wienerschnitzel hot dogs.
Okay, I got two questions here:
-
My understanding was that the Rally Monkey did its job (man, what a job…divine intervention would not have produced a crazier finish), and was henceforth going to be retired before it got totally unbearable. ESPN mentioned this once. Are we going to be living with that thing for another entire season? Believe me, the backlash on this is going to make Macarena '97 look like a damn slap fight.

The Rangers…so, like, they got their pitching now or what?
Just askin’.
Go Cubs! I miss Steve Stone. Anybody know what he’s up to these days?
What I really like, too, is baseball on the radio.
You don’t have to pay that much attention until you hear the crowd roar.
It’s not so much a pitchers game anymore. Is baseball getting soft in its old age?
Hey, If I’m playing short, then the Yankees really do have reason to worry…
I agree: Jeter was probably the fifth best Yankee last year. That was a down year, however.
The Red Sox are good enough this year that the difference between Derek Jeter and Enrique Wilson/Erick Almonte may very well be the difference between first and second. But of course, it’s too early to tell.
Surely the Rangers are not enough of a threat to Angels fans to deserve your hatred…
Unless Sunday’s game has you hearing footsteps.
Here’s to a great season, all. Go Rangers.
A down year? His offense has been steadily declining the past few seasons. Not so much a down year as the continuation of a trend.
Let me just say I knew the season was a total loss when I heard that Valdez was our opening day starter. He then shocked me by keeping us in the game for 5 innings. Our bullpen then shocked me by keeping us ahead for the remainder of the game.
I think it’s too early to say we’ve ‘got our pitching now,’ but I’m cautiously optimistic. Urbina seems to be the real deal, but I should probably not be too giddy that he mowed down the 7-8-9 on like 4 pitches for the save. Of course, I’ll take any excuse for giddiness since we are now over .500 for the first time in God only knows how long.
as a Rangers fan, I cling to the certainty that no matter how bad it gets, a bad day watching baseball (like playing golf) is still better than a good day at work.
B oston Red Sox. And there’s a reason we got rid of Urbina.
I’m sure the Toronto catcher did not mean to injure Jeter, but he should have hit the ground sooner. His knees should have hit the ground short of third base and then reach for the runner.
Classless act of the season to date- the Blue Jays purchased a full page ad in the Toronto paper showing a Yankee hat dripping with bird poop, and urging the fans to boo Matsui. Tacky and racist.
So you could lose to the Devil Rays?
Yay for the Cablevision/YES deal! I got to see the game last night, woo hoo!
I thought the Toronto catcher made an extremely stupid and dangerous play, and cost Jeter his shoulder. Barrelling full speed down the 3rd base line, what did he expect other than a horrible collision? I also thought Jeter was safe, he only left the bag because the collision knocked him off the bag.
DKW the Rally Monkey has not been retired. He will once again assume his position as motivator at the final innings of the game. You realize of course, he is not even allowed to appear until the 6th inning or later and we must be either tied or trailing. Kids love him. To watch a child of about 5 or 6 waiting for the appearance of the rally monkey is great. They see all of the signs on the jumbotron that he is about to jump about. So the child will sit on the edge of their seat, tightly clasping a stuffed monkey in their hands with a very serious look on their face (you know how serious children are about fun). But as soon as the rally monkey appears on the scoreboard the child is jumping up and down and twirling his stuff monkey. It is cuter than a bugs ear. So all of you adults who don’t like the monkey I say “pbbbbttthhh, the kids do”.
TigoleBitties where are you sitting, I will be there also in section 413.
Don’t know about that, but but he’s gotta be the cutest. I can name several people of the female persuasion who would gladly volunteer to help him feel better right away.
Oh please. He should have just let Jeter take third because widdle Dewek might get hurt? Sorry, it was a terrible accident, and it’s too bad that Jeter got hurt, but Huckaby wasn’t trying to injure him and shit happens. If it was Posada taking out Hinske in the same way, everyone would be lauding Posada’s hustle and how he was a real gamer. What do you think about collisions at home or breaking up double plays?
You are right that Jeter shouldn’t have been called out. He was safe, but was forced off by the collision so he still should have been safe.
I agree with your first point 100%. It was a clean play, and frankly I’m disappointed in the Yankee players who seem to be insinuating otherwise.
As for the second point… it’s not so clear. A defender can’t intentionally dislodge a player from a base (unless his name is Hrbek), but that didn’t really happen here. There’s some question as to whether the umpire should have called time or not. It does appear to be a situation that isn’t exactly covered by the rules.
B stands for Boston as in Red Sox. Summers at Fenway Park… ahhh those were the days!
Although when I used to work at Dodger Stadium the B was for Bastards… that was what I thought about all my employees. (I was in Concessions Management AKA Weenie slingers)
Baltimore Orioles!!!
snicker
sighI used to be able to say it without giggling.
You apparently never saw the flip to Posada to nab the runner at the plate when he was backing up the cutoff man in the series 2 years ago.Another day at thee offive for him.
I’ve been watching the Yankees since the 50s and he is absolutely hands down the best SS since Kubek. And hitting 1st,2nd or 3rd in the order (how many players you see filled all those roles effectively?) his bat contributes as much as the later swingers. The guy hustles to get on when he’s not actually hitting one out of the park.I sincerely doubt any of the Yankee players would consider him 4th or 5th.
Whoever’s covering for him has some ** mighty big ** shoes to fill.
- thee offive *? Should have read the office.
Speaking from the angry disgruntled fan perspective, I just don’t think Huckaby was in any position to make a play other than “catch the ball, crash into Jeter, hope for the best”. It wasn’t dirty or intentional, but it sure as heck was dangerous, where would Jeter be right now if those shinguards hit the side of his head instead of his shoulder? ewwwwww!
One of the things I’ve always liked about Jeter is his smart play, he doesn’t make many mistakes, and seems to always be in the right spot. Baserunning, the guy is aggressive out there but doesn’t get thrown out, it’s a big asset. This is one guy that I really believe does more than his batting average.
