Based on this list, what MST3K eps should I buy?

I had no idea that MSK3K was available for my own personal dining and dancing amusument.

This makes me the happiest of people.

Thanks!

From Manos:

The master’s wife #1: Man, yes. Child, no.

Tom: Cheese, maybe.

Crow: Oh look honey, he’s got a little altar to Baal.
And never forget the short, Hired, Part 2.

The old man with the handkerchief on his head. “He’s having an episode!”

and “Meanwhile, Elliot Ness and his untouchables head to a speakeasy in Berwyn.”

Pretty much. Before I saw Manos, I didn’t think a movie could be as boring as Neptune Men. But it’s much funnier if you’ve seen Prince of Space. (Mike hugging Krankor on the bridge of the SOL = awesome.)

If you can find them, also check out The Giant Gila Monster and Teenagers from Outer Space.

I just started building my DVD collection a few weeks ago. So far I only have 3 eps; Manos, The Wild, Wild World of Batwoman and The Brain that Wouldn’t Die. All of them are enjoyable and weird.

Was it Prince of Space or Neptune Men that they blow up the Hitler Building?

“The Hitler memorabilia, the Mussolini salt-and-pepper shakers, they blew it all up!”

Or something.

Neptune Men. My g/f and I had to stop the VCR, we were laughing so hard.

My favorites are:

The Day the Earth Froze

The Day the Earth Froze

The Day the Earth Froze

The Day the Earth Froze

The Day the Earth Froze

Oh, yeah, also get The Day the Earth Froze

BMalion, have you ever seen The Day the Earth Froze? I think you might like it.

Unleash the Sampo!

Oh yeah, all those Russo-Finnish movies are great.

And The Day The Earth Froze features that legendary hero we’ve all heard of: …ah. er…his name was…um… Annakie’s brother!

(They never even said his name in the film, did they. Now that is the mark of quality!)

And don’t miss the exploits of Ilya Mourometz (yet another legendary hero we all know and love) in The Magic Sword! And the exploits of yet another legendary hero in The Magic Voyage of Sinbad, in which Sinbad is inexplicably from that part of Persia that’s up around Denmark.

Before anyone corrects me: whoops, the Mourometz movie was The Sword and the Dragon. Although The Magic Sword is also quite hilarious, featuring one knight representing every major ethnicity ("'Allo! I am French!")

I agree about Final Sacrifice, it’s my absolute favorite. I also love Jack Frost, which I don’t think anyone has mentioned and Starfighters. But the OP said that he has most of the later seasons, so maybe those have been covered implicitly.

High School Big Shot is good, but the short at the begining about the bread salesman (can’t remember the name…) is fantastic! My boyfriend claims he’s seen it “more than my family.”

BTW, where are you planning on acquiring these episodes? I’ve been doing some shopping aroung and I can’t find anyone who is trading or selling. My old guy fell through because he’s converting to DVD and too busy, or something. I know there’s questionable legality to trading v. selling, so if you don’t want to divulge, that’s cool. You might have just meant Rhino episodes, anyway.

I plan to get them from ebay. They are sold by complete seasons and by the single episode, on both VHS tapes and DVDs. Here’s a link to the MST3K pages they have up today:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=mst3k

That’s where I got Season 10 on DVD and I also got 10 single episodes on VHS tapes. I was worried that the quality would be terrible - people taping and making copies from the original tapes, and I don’t even know how they copy DVDs. But the quality is great! Plus the commercials are edited out. YMMV a lot on quality though, depending who you buy from. I might have just been lucky to deal with sellers who care about that.

Nonsuch, you’ll be happy to see season sets say they DO NOT include episodes that are available from Rhino.

I appreciate the suggestions. The episodes with terrible production values, like Manos, sound too tough for me to sit through. I know they are supposed to be “bad” movies to start with but I hate not being able to see/hear.

Is it okay to get them from ebay?

I think a few years ago, before DVD, you’d find more fans objecting to selling the episodes for money. Now that people have taken to mastering the shows themselves, building menus, duplicating disks, even creating sleeve art, I think it’s understood that that merits a little compensation. I myself don’t object to paying for MST episodes if they’re digital. (I’ve digitized some of my own collection and it is much more time-consuming than just dupeing a cassette.) Others may disagree with me though.

Manos. Manos Manos Manos Manos Manos.

Get it if you possibly can.

Also, there’s one with an incredibly long title which ends with “mixed-up zombies”. And there’s also “Horror at Party Beach” and “Hobgoblins”. Hobgoblins has to take the prize for Worst Movie Ever. Apparently, they did that one at the request of the director of the original film.

WOW! I had no idea so much was available through e-bay; I’d never checked.

Maryellen, you have made me deliriously happy.

I’m sorry, I don’t remember titles.

The first one I ever saw was one where an unethical psychiatrist went back in time, and Satan was involved, and this woman had to die so that her future reincarnations might live.

There was another one where there was a cult to Ishtar, and one where astronauts landed on a planet of very tiny people.

Then there was a woman who was telekinetic, and something about a fleur-di-lis medallion, and a coffin.

Oh, and the ventriloquist…“Devil Doll?”

I do remember Riding With Death, that was a pilot for a Steven Bochco show, wasn’t it?

Manos hits a little too close to home for me; I can’t watch it for some reason.

Maryellen you should consider purchasing the “Shorts” collections…I believe there are 2 currently. They are reet skeet!

I don’t think I want to know how Manos could hit home for anybody. Eek. I do recommend it, though you might want to start with lighter fare first. (I can’t believe I’m saying that about MST, but it makes sense. Really.)

A personal favorite of mine is Cave Dwellers. The first time I saw it I ended up actually rolling on the floor, laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe, thanks to one particular scene. You’ll probably know which one. Oh, and I have no idea WTF the title has to do with the rest of the movie.

I second Fire Maidens. Another favorite. The movie is just dreadful, and the writers were having a really good week – they tore it to shreds.
