Who cares if I did decided to try it because of a Fountains of Wayne song*? This is tasty stuff. They recommend sipping it neat, but my inaugural tasting is on the rocks. Smooth!
*Red Dragon Tatoo.
I would be concerned it might taste of basil. :dubious:
Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.
It’s not bad, not bad at all. I still curse Tuckerfan for turning me on to Buffalo Trace.
Wasn’t that the preferred drink of serial killer Francis Wolcott in HBO’s Deadwood? Not to imply anything by that – I just think it’s kinda cool when products are popular for a long time. They must be doing something very right.
From what I just looked up, I don’t think it has been continuous production since then. Hayden made Bourbon whiskey back then, then his grandson honored old Basil by putting his image on the Old Grand Dad label. The Basil Hayden’s of today is one of the Beam family of small-batch whiskeys, which includes Booker’s and Knob Creek. Is today’s Basil Hayden’s the same as what Basil made back then? I don’t think it’s possible to know.
The Beam company says it is. They claim the grain bill used is the same one ole Basil hisself used in 1796.
With as much whiskey, bourbon and scotch that you must drink, how come you’re sober enough to beat me to every alcohol-related thread by a minute?
Besides tasting good, the embossed copper “belt” that they wrap around the bottle, with the bH “buckle” is a nice touch.
Years of experience, m’boy. A pure heart, clean living and years of experience.
I bought a George Stagg a couple weeks ago that’s been incredible.
