Bathrobes don't kill people...dumb parents do

You know, sometimes I see things on the news that make me wonder about the future of humanity, civilization and whether or not God is just pounding his head on a wall demanding a do-over.

Sometimes I see stories on the news about blind, deaf, 9 year old girls falling to their deaths because their mothers leave them alone.

And then the story gets worse when we hear that the mother had TIED THE GIRL TO A RADIATOR WITH A BATHROBE BELT and left for FIVE HOURS. The girl managed to free herself, maybe because she was thirsty, had to go potty, was tired, uncomfortable…maybe BURNED BY THE FUCKING RADIATOR, and stumbled out an open window, where she lay in an alley with broken bones, unable to speak or move, until a man throwing out his garbage found her there.

That little girl is now dead.

The mother was shown on the news in hysterics, wailing, collapsing in the arms of police. I hope she’ll pardon me if I tell her to CRY ME A FUCKING RIVER.

This is the same mother that left her little girl unattended for hours when she fell down a flight of stairs and was found by neighbors.

Well, certainly, I thought. Here is a time when we all can agree…this was bad parenting. CAN’T WE? IN THE NAME OF GOD?

Oh no. Because a friend of the family was on channel five last night informing me that I DON’T KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO RAISE A BLIND AND DEAF GIRL, and that SOMETIMES IT GETS TO BE STRESSFUL.

Hey. You got me there. I don’t know how hard it is. But in my 29 years of interaction with other human beings I know e-fucking-nough to NOT TIE A LITTLE GIRL TO A RADIATOR AND LEAVE HER UNATTENDED.

God be with this woman’s other two children…who, in my very humble opinion…should be taken away IMMEDIATELY.

and if someone would like to fix that coding…I’d damn sure appreciate it.

Fixing the link won’t help, because you need to be registered to view it anyway.

Pretty fucked up story though.

really? I’m not registered there and I read the whole thing. Odd.

When a person entrusted to your care is not safe to be left alone for whatever reason, be it because they are an infant, child, parent medical problems, or person with uncompensated handicaps then you should not leave them alone. I seems simple enough to me.

When I kids were little I either took them with me or arranged to have someone with them. When my father in law had a stroke which resulted in severe dementia and the tendancy to want to roam around all night, my mother in law stayed up with him all night and we took care of him during the day while she slept.

When my mother in law had a cerebral hemmorhage that left her with impairments so severe that she could not be left alone, we had two choices either nursing home or move her in with us. We sold our houses and built this one to accomodate her. I worked midnight shift, my husband worked 3-11 and our our kids were old enough (10 and 15) to stay with her for short periods in the evening if we had something to do. She lived with us 10 years and died in her own bed surrounded by everyone who loved her.

My point is there is no excuse good enough for neglecting someone. If I can do it anyone can. There were many times when I thought “damn this is so hard. I hate working midnights and I hate not being able to sleep with my husband” and maybe I even felt a little sorry for myself but still I did not give up.

I think this mom definitely falls under the category of bad parent but the most pertinent question is why? Is she merely ignorant, drug or alcohol addicted, or just devoid of any moral character. Whether or not she deserves to keep her other kids depends a lot on those questions.

I don’t know the status of the other kids. Maybe they were able to fend for themselves to a certain degree. How old are they? Where were they when the girl was tied to the radiator? Left alone for 5 hours too? And what was mom doing for those 5 hours? Working? Drinking at a bar? If it was up to me there would have to be a thorough investigation done before I would leave those kids in the home .

OK, I’ve got it now. I tried searching for the story, and that link requires registration. The link from the main page does not.

The remaining children should be taken away and the woman should have her uterus yanked out. Slowly.

Ugh. Grotesque story.

What galls me, is when, as jarbabyj described, the mother (lose interpretation of that word) on TV or in public wailing and moaning about how much of a loss this is to her. What if there had been a fire? Another natural disaster?

I’m sure if the girl had been sitting there, after that long, still tied up, she wouldn’t have thought twice about what a horrible human being she is.

According to CNN, the other 2 kids were removed from the home immediately. I’d vote for making it permanent.

I agree. I think once you’ve neglected one of your children to the point of her death…you don’t get a chance to do that with the other two.

And as far as anyone is reporting, the mother wasn’t a drug addict or ‘post partum’ or anything. She was just…irresponsible. I hope they charge her with SOMETHING

This story pisses me off in more ways than one. Here’s why.

My younger sister is austistic and severely developmentally disabled. She is a non verbal 23 year old who functions at approximately a two and a half year old level. She requires around the clock supervision and care. At her worst, she has tantrums which hard to control in someone taller and heavier than you.

My family and I have cared for her ever since she was diagnosed. It hasn’t been easy. It can be tiring and frustrating.

At no point was binding her to a fucking radiator ever an option.

Holy fucking catfish! That’s just sick…
You need a license to fish…but any idiot capable of reproducing can be a parent!*

*Not this is NOT intended as a slur or to ignore that some people are unable to have children. I think yinz know what I mean here…

The so-called parents have been arrested for child endangerment, I believe. I hope they ROT!

Ya know, I don’t think it would even occur to me to tie my kid to a radiator. I know all kids can be frustrating (hell, I was, too), but Jesus. That just defies imagination.

There’s a special place in hell for people like this.

What a horrific story. I can’t imagine what must have gone through that girls mind as she lay there dying.

That woman should be taken away from any kids. Permanently. And she should be locked up for a few years, too. I hope she sees her daughter’s face everytime she closes her eyes.

I read that story this morning and all I can say is what the fuck?

I’m just lost for words; every time I think I’ve read it all, something like this comes along.

It sounds trite - especially coming from an atheist - but that young girl is in a far better place now than she ever was living with those parents.

A RADIATOR for fuck’s sake, and an open window.

I hope those parents suffer prolonged, painful, scary deaths when their time comes.

I still don’t understand…where were the other two children while this was going on? Were they older or younger? Wasn’t she going to school?

That woman AND that man! He’s as guilty as she, and they should both rot eternally.
