Battlefield 1942 owners, I need help!

Here’s the deal. I got BF1942 in a package with my new Video Card. I made a copy of it for backup purposes like I do for all my CDROMs. I rebuilt my OS a while back and didn’t reinstall the game. Now I’m itching to play and am trying to reinstall it. I can’t find the original disks, but I’ve got the spindle with all my backups on it. The backups install fine, but they don’t run. It asks for the CD when it tries to run and says it can’t find it, but I think since my software renamed the CDs on backup the game isn’t recognizing the backup version.

Anyone have any ideas? I’m thinking that if I can find out what the discs were originally named I could probably re-burn the backups and use the correct volume name and it’ll work. I’ve got the CD key and everything, it installs fine, so as long as I can reburn the play CD with the right name it’ll work if my theory is correct.

If my theory is not correct I hope someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks!

You could do a google search for a “no-cd” patch. I have used these with success on other games.

Yeah, my research turned that stuff up, but I don’t get why my version isn’t working. I shouldn’t need some crack. Hmm.

I had this happen last week. I have a brand new, just out of the box game, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, and it won’t recognise the cd when I go to play. I have to use the patch. I’d rather use the cd, but I also want to play.

Well, I found the no-CD workaround. What a nuisance.

Anyways, thanks for the help.

What controller do you guys like best for BF?

This thread is better suited for Cafe Society.

I’ll move it for you.

Cajun Man
for the SDMB

I use a joystick. One with rudder control as a “twist” to the handle. Mine is a Saitek Cyborg Evo
If it’s working, and a legit copy, I highly recommend the DCX mod (it’s actually a mod to a mod) built on Desert Combat … good stuff, modern weapons and vehicles.
