Ok, so I’m playing Starfleet Command vol. 2 on my computer. Things are going great and I’ve become addicted to this game. My computer has been wigging out on me for the last few weeks and I’ve been meaning to clean house. Ok, so I go ahead and reinstall windows and all sorts of other stuff to make it work. Computer is no longer wiggy.
I put in the disk to SF Command vol 2 and the install screen pops up. I click on install and I get a message that says “This program has performed an illegal action and will be shut down.” So I restarted Windows and I tried the disk out again. I’m still getting the same message.
I’ve tried the disk out on two other computers and I’m getting the same message. In the span of a few hours is it possible for a CD-Rom to go bad? When CDs attack next on FOX! Any ideas? The disk was working just fine earlier today and now I’m miffed that it isn’t. I spent 40 bucks on this game.
I went there after I posted my message and I followed their troubleshooting directions. It didn’t work. The same error has occured on two other computers when I attempted to install the game. I’m convinced that there’s something wrong with the CD-ROM and I’ve emailed the company with my problem. Hopefully they’ll see fit to replace the disk if necessary. I buy a lot of Interplay stuff and I’m pretty good about registering it.
This is a WAG but try disabling (or enabling) the DMA access in your CD-ROM settings under Control Panel -System. I had a similar problem with the Diablo II expansion pack and this was a work around.
