If an alien came to me and said “Hey, we have the power to complete destroy the earth and annihilate humanity. If you don’t want that to happen, just say so.”
Playing this game reminds me of why I’d probably say “nuke it.”
People are so incredibly stupid and selfish. For instance - 5 guys are standing around, hoping a jeep spawns so they can go to the next area. It spawns. One guy hops in. He has a choice - either wait 1, maybe 2 seconds and get loaded up and help your teammates, or… just drive off like a fucking retard, costing everyone else lots of time when all it would’ve taken you to help them was a whole 2 seconds of your time. The latter happens 90% of the time. I mean, I know it’s just a video game - but it’s just such a complete selfish, stupid, assholish behavior that when it happens to me 5 times in a row it seriously depresses me about humanity.
64 player servers. 32 player teams. 5 people trying to get flags… 27 people waiting for 3 air units to spawn. Do I need to explain how dumb this is and how it ruins the game?
The start of most games goes like this: 30 people spawn at the airfield. Everyone runs for the aircraft. People shoot other people in the back to prevent them from doing it. 20 TKs in the first 20 seconds. Someone finally gets to the plane, and starts to take off - some other retard blows them up. This ballet of stupidity makes me wish I had a superpower with which I could neuter the entire human race.
And the incessant chatter. 32 players on a team, everyone saying “I see a chopper!” every time they do, and it’s CONSTANT communications spamming. Communication becomes useless - you have to mentally tune it out because it’s absolutely worthless because of all the spam. EA could’ve made a filter so that you only heard stuff from your squad, but that would make too much sense.
To make things worse, people are allowed to spam things 4 times in a row. EA even put in a spam block so you can’t do it more than 4 times - but why the fuck not just make it 1, instead of 4? People spam “armor spotted” 4 times in a row because obviously everyone cares intently because they’re the most important person in the world - and when you have an already oversaturated communication link with no filter this just makes it a ridiculous annoyance.
It’s a shame, because it really could be a fun, great game, but the average person, the complete selfish asshole retard, makes things lame as fuck.
This doesn’t bother me so much… teamwork in a chopper is a lot better way to get flags than humping it on the ground. Air power is a huge combat multiplier when the AA sucks le shit.
It makes me wish I cared enough about the game to rent my own server and put the smackdown on tards like that. Obviously you do care enough, so maybe it’s something to consider. But that being said, some servers are a lot better than others. I haven’t seen the vehicle blow-off quite as much as you describe.
Actually, it’s generally better when these people drive off in a vehicle with nobody in it, because 9 times out of 10, they’re just going to drive straight up the center of the kill zone and get blown away. Over and over. I’m like, dudes, don’t you know there’s an alternate route on each side of Karkand that goes directly to strategic flags? No, of course not. They want to drive right up the middle and see if a jeep can take an M1-Abrams tank (It can’t, in case anybody was wondering).
Hey, since we’re chatting about bugs in this game, I’d like to find out if this is a graphics bug or a problem with my video card.
I picked up a 6800gs AGP a couple weeks ago (upgraded from a FX5200) and bought BF2 a few days back. On certain objects (usually things like walls), I’ll get a number of flashing texture blocks (I think that’s what they are). Or I’ll get some sort of long line stretching out from a tank. Neither of these things happen all the time. They doesn’t make the game unplayable, but they are a bit distracting all the same. Anyone else run into that? I haven’t seen it in any other game, but haven’t played any other game nearly as much as BF2 since I picked up the new card (I wanted to give it a workout & see what I was getting).
And another thing. TK punishers.
They’re ooooohhhh so quick with that “Page down” key. No-one EVER waits for an apology.
And twerps who WALK OVER CLAYMORES. Even after seeing the little death symbol. Ohhhhhhhh they’re so fucking dumb, but it’s MY fault? No-one uses common sense with this thing.
It shits me.
Max.
This is just an idle thought, but you know, ranked BF2 servers only cost $60 a month… wouldn’t it be cool if likeminded people like us got together and rented our own server? I propose disabling all TK for mines and active monitoring. Also, we will kick people if they do not use profanity at least once per round.
I wonder if you can change your account name… if so, I call dibs on =SD= 1920’s Style Death Ray.
I really like this idea. Actually, I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I have a mate who’s got a nice little data centre with a gigabit uplink. I’m thinking… maybe he’ll let me have a little rack space?
Don’t know about that, but I think you’re allowed to have a prefix - like for clans and stuff. Last time we used [SDMB], but hey, your idea is good too!
umm… isn’t that “fixed” in the latest “patch?” On the Moongamers servers, the claymores don’t get set off by allies. If there are allies there when an enemy sets them off, they take the damage, too, but you can’t set off your own teammates’ claymores any more. They’re the ordinance of choice now for the Explosive Ordinance badge, particularly since, until the next “patch” comes out, so long as you have a supply guy, you can keep dropping claymores. You can now put out enough claymores to take out jeeps and other small vehicles…
It’s set on a per-server basis. Some servers allow team damage from mines/claymores, others set it so you can’t kill your team-mates with these ordnances. The only way I can tell which setting a server uses (assuming it’s not listed on the splash page) is to walk over one and pray.
Does anyone know of a console command to see if team damage from mines is enabled?
Max.
I’m still awed by how such a good game can have such horrible everything else.
I finally got around to getting the game - a year later, still full price.
So I install it, off 3 cds, because they stopped making the DVD version for some reason. I reboot to install the stupid game, then try to patch it. The patch needs 2 gigs to work - not the game, the game is already installed. So I go into control panel and uninstall far cry to make room. Then bf2 is gone. WTF? Far cry is still there. Uninstalling far cry, when I’m 100% sure I clicked on far cry, uninstalled bf2. No idea wtf was up with that.
Fine, whatever. I start installing again. It pops up and says “please insert cd 2, retry?” with the yes bar selected. I was in the middle of typing, so it automatically clicked yes. So what happened? Does it say “cd not found, retry?” or something? No, it says “wrong cd, aborting installation, please start again”…
!!!
I can’t believe how amateurish this multimillion dollar project is.
So I finally installed the game and… doesn’t work. drops to desktop.
fucking dice.
hate.
Heh. For all its flaws, I am still in love with BF2. I just recently installed special forces and unlocked the L96A1 sniper rifle. Drool-worthy! I got my sniper veteran combat badge with it, something that would NEVER have happened with the peashooters they give you in the standard game. I’m actually enjoying the sniper class now.
Next on the list is my expert medic combat badge. Just a few more hours to reach 100, then it’s kill, kill, kill!!
Max.
Yeah but who cares? It’s not like TKs are really punished anyway.
Actually, I resent that comment. For me, anything that detracts from my score is a punishment. It’s bad enough that I TK’d (takes points away), but if I’m punished for it, I get another negative hit. It’s made even worse when the TK could have been avoided, such as dimwits tripping over my claymore.
Max.
You lose four regardless of whether you’re punished or not. Punishment carries no additional score penalty.
Looks like I’m probably out $50, it’s not like I can return an open game.
The stupidest thing is that it ran once. Two reboots after install, it ran (and then crashed in game, but still…) and then stopped running again. I uninstalled it, deleted every registry seting, reinstalled it in a different spot - and that worked before when it stopped working, and nothing.
I’ve never hated a game that I really wanted to play so much.
I have B2 but I have never played a game online. Actually, I’ve never done any online gaming. I never could get Counterstrike to load.
I recently got a new PC. (it is glorious) I like playing B2 and with other people it should be great. Do I need a mic? I don’t have one of those.
Exchange it for another copy and then return that new unopened copy a few hours later.
That’s completely illogical. If there is no penalty, the punish is worthless.
Have a look here: http://faqs.ign.com/articles/636/636361p1.html. A team kill on its own is -2 points. Punished, it’s -4.
Cheers,
Max.
I might post a new thread about this.
Anyone interested in a bf2 SDMB night? I finally got my copy working…
We could go to a relatively uncrowded public server and form our own squad - since you can spawn on the squad leader, we could all play near each other even on big servers… we can use the VOIP and squad command/maps to coordinate.
