I’m jealous, really. But I would need to upgrade my OS and replace a video card that is just 1 1/2 years old. Can’t justify spending that much right now.
It’s just Torus, McNally and I in that one, but it does a decent job of showing high player density infantry combat.
I sometimes put a disclaimer in about youtube videos - they’re always low bit rate even at 1080p. I might upload a video that’s 600MB and it’ll reduce it to something that’s like 8mb. It does a pretty good job of compressing video considering how tiny the bitrate it uses is, but it still compresses the hell out of video, which makes the final product a lot less detailed, much more muddy, and full of compression artifacts. I mean - just look at, for example, the text at the bottom of the screen that says “squad heal 30” or whatever - it’s so easy to render and yet it’s so messy. I say this because youtube videos can’t do the game justice as far as how good it looks on PC. Still, best (or least bad) to watch it in 1080p fullscreen.
Oh in particular the scene at like 2:20. There’s an enemy guy that slipped in there somehow, and he’s just calmly staring at all of us, and no one notices. That was just bizarre.
Never really had a chance to hook up and play with you guys this weekend, but I did have a blast. Have actually played all kits now until at least the first unlock, which has given me a good idea of what I like and hopefully I can jump into any of them in a pinch.
I’m with McNally on the snipers. I have seen quite a few in certain maps that cater to them, but on some it’s just silly.
Actually got banned form a server, first time for me, because some sniper was laying right by the main camp and I ran by as he got nailed. I dropped down and saw 2-4 guys all looking up there, so I opened up with my machine gun.
Dude calls me out in game as a dumb-ass for shooting from there and giving away his position.
I pointed out that they already knew he was there, since he had just been shot, and that I just got machine gun lock when I saw all the orange arrows out there.
He was the owner of the server, apparently, so he perma-banned me with no other comment.
Couldn’t handle the truth.
Looking back, it was silly because I couldn’t hit them at that range, but it wasn’t some super secret hidey hole. It was just up the wall from the stationary misssle launcher at the top of the hill in Tehran Highway.
I just hate that sort of shit, took his ball and went home.
Thank you for your contribution to the thread. Please start another thread about all the other games that you also aren’t interested in so that I may subscribe to it.
It’s a technical issue in terms of how much hardware performance there is to work with on the consoles.
I’m amazed what they’ve managed to get on there, it’s 5+ year old tech after all.
They settled on 24 players in order to fit in the level of detail, graphics, destruction, and network requirements that made it look and play well.
They’ve said that the only other option would be to turn down the graphics further, lower the resolution and dumb down destruction/physics in roder to squeeze more players in. Something they do not plan on doing.
I’m a little confused about how you can go about adding stuff that you’ve unlocked to your weapons.
I’ve unlocked the M320 grenade launcher but it won’t let me attach it to any of the guns that I currently have, even with the underslung rail. Has anybody else encountered this?
During the game (not in the menus), use your Weapon Switch button or your Secondary Weapon/Tertiary Weapon button. If I understand your problem, it’s the same one I had and I fixed it like that.
Glad to have been of help. Hopefully that makes up for all the times I mortared you yesterday : )
Currently playing the single player:
Why quicktime events? Why. are. they. there? Everytime I hear people talking about them, it’s to say how much they hate them. I remember COD3 catching flak for their quicktime events. What reason, good or bad, do developers have to put in quicktime events in a game?
Yeah I have an GTS 250 that has overheated from day one in certain games like ARMA2 and Dead Island. I discovered the GPU fan never was reaching 100%, so I installed software to fix that. Even then some games still ran over 80 degrees Celsius.
If I’m busy trying to play multiplayer I just take the side off my case and blow a small external fan on the video card. That’s a crude but effective fix.
Try the software first though. You should probably be able to hear the GPU fan whirring pretty loudly while in BF3. If not, find software like EVGA Precision to create a fan profile that will ramp up the speed to 100%.
Your computer case might also need cleaned out, if there is a lot of dust in it. If you have your computer an enclosed space or it doesn’t have enough fans figure out a way to get more cool air into the case.
I had an issue a while ago where my old video card’s fan would stay at 40% power, no matter how hot it got. I downloaded some software that allowed me to control the fan speed and never had an issue with it again.
Not sure if you have the same problem but it might be something to consider.
What temp range should a GPU be in? My Nvidia GTX470 shows about 81/82 C during most gameplay of BF3 - is this too hot? It’s usually around 39-41 C when I’m not doing anything on the PC…
I am having some performance issues…unfortunately I am on the fringe of the minimum requirements with my processor (AMD Athlon Dual Core 5200 2.7 GHz) and my video card is older (Nvidia 9600GT 512 GB) too…I am running everything on the lowest settings with all anti-aliasing turned off…most of my issues appear to be audio (repeated sounds, jerkiness) although there’s also lag when there’s a lot of things happening onscreen simultaneously. I just downloaded the latest set of Nvidia drivers that apparently were created specifically for this game, although I have yet to try and see if it helped or not.
Anyone have any tips to increase game audio/video performance even more?
