Battlefield 3

The fracking game won’t launch in campaign mode for me anymore. I first noticed the issue yesterday but forgot about it when doing the co-op missions and multi-player. Tried to resume the campaign again this morning and it kept crashing out after loading. Game manager says nothing more useful than “Game Disconnected: Something Went Wrong.” I go to feedback and support and see that it has been an ongoing issue for some people since launch. Each patch helps some people and screws others…

Back to karkand on Tuesday, and I hear great stuff about it so far.

I assume we want to set up our server for the conquest assault version of those maps on rotation? We should definitely get enough people playing again for a game every night on our server… assuming everyone either preordered or is buying B2K.
Which means… will you guys help me try to make an improved immortal helicopter video tomorrow? I assume we won’t be doing that again for a while past B2K unless one of those maps tuns out to be a good candidate for it. Javelins out the sides, more aggressive flying - I think we can make even more badass looking runs.

I really like the Assignments needed to unlock the new weapons. Adds something else to play for each round.

The weird thing about when you unlock the Famas, is that it comes with a 12x scope. But the iron sight is a thick circle that blocks your view of your target. However, beside this I love this gun. Its able to switch to the 3-round burst which is ideal for how I tend to shoot.

These back to karkand maps are so much better than the stock BF3 maps. Just shows to go that map design gets worse by the year. Strike at Karkand is especially far ahead of any of the infantry focused maps.

Had the same problem about a week ago - creating a separate shortcut to the game and adding a -sp trigger behind the destination in the shortcut link fixed it for me.

I really enjoy this game on the 360. Have even started to appreciate the unlock cycles.

My favorite thing to do right now is probably putting C4 on the hood of a dune buggy then driving maniacally until I find something to ram it into after bailing out so I can pull the trigger. Quite fun. I think I got 3 or 4 tanks like that on Caspian Border today.

I also like putting C4 near the terminals in rush when defending. Makes it easier to go disarm if the planter is dead.

I never played Battlefield 2 so maybe I am just not used to the new maps but they all seem INCREDIBLY camper friendly, can’t stand them. AND the opponent starts with every objective in conquest, what B.S.

Having never played them before, the new maps are a lot of fun, EXCEPT that they really seem to by air-power dominated. Much more so than the stock, it seems.

Maybe I was just playing with/against some really talented fliers, but the helo’s and jets were unbelievable early last night, versus when I switched to the servers with original maps, the impact was not nearly so crushing.

Hmm, camper friendly is an interesting assessment. There’s more cover to hide in, but there are also more viable attack paths than most BF3 maps - it’s easier to sneak around and get behind people. I haven’t noticed there to be many campers so far.

As far as opponents starting with every objective, you’re kind of missing the point. It’s not conquest - it’s conquest assault. It’s an attack/defend style rather than the meeting engagement style of conquest. The side that starts with all the flag has no uncapturable home base, no safe place to spawn - everything is fair game. If you capture the airfield on Wake, they have no more aircraft. If you capture all their bases, they have nowhere to go.

It’s a fun game mode that creates a lot more desperate situations than conquest because the defender is always under threat of losing at any time.

The new maps do feature a ton of airpower though, at least the 64 player versions. Doesn’t strike me as that big a deal given how impotent helicopters are and how they can be easily taken out by just about anything though.

By camper friendly I wasn’t talking about places to hide, so much as that getting from offensive spawn to objectives you have to cover SO MUCH open space where you are a sitting duck, that is what I cannot stand.

But, I have hated some of the maps until I learned them more, so I will be giving them more of a chance this weekend…

edit: On those ladders on multi-story buildings, is it possible to get off at each level, or do you HAVE to climb all the way up? I’m on xbox and couldn’t figure out how to get off the ladder without going all the way up or just dropping off of it.

Forgive me if this has already been address in this behemoth thread, but is it possible to obtain BF3 for PC in any way that doesn’t use Origin? Frankly, I don’t trust EA to not install spyware.

All you guys who didn’t want to buy fraps, I have a good free alternative for you. MSI Afterburner, make sure you get the latest beta version at that link as the last release version doesn’t record sound.

It seems to have less of a performance penalty than fraps too, so it should be easier to run.

Make some videos.

If there way a way to keep it running constantly without dominating my frames-per-second, I would totally run it.

I’m having run running red-dot scopes on bolt sniper rifles at the moment, and snap-up one-shots from 250m on running people are beautiful things.

Back to Karkland, in general, is just pure awesomeness - although I do notice that the BF2 weapons seem to much more accurate than the original BF3 ones.

We had the closest possible round of Metro CQ last night. My side started in the tunnels and, as usual, had a major fight for 9/10’s of the game trying to secure B. By the time we had it, we were down 33-56, but from there we quickly managed to grab all three objectives and settle in.

So we had all the objectives, but it wasn’t looking good. They were bleeding tickets, but we were already way down so it seemed a fait accompli that we lost.

13-34, I go down, get revived, plant some C4 and take out 2 guys in a suicide defend.

By the time my respawn counter ticks to GO!, we’re at 5-15. I don’t know what happened, but I saw the other side drop 6 tickets at a time and they were still bleeding tickets.

So I sat. I did not respawn. I sat and watched the counters.

5-15…3-13…they took B, but we still controlled A and C…

3-9…2-7…2-6…2-4…1-3…1-2…1-1…1-1…1-1…1-1 end music…my mind racing, who won?!

Yut.

No. No possible way. It’s tied with Origin. Buy it at the store, get a disk, and you still end up with Origin installed.

I’ve grown to greatly dislike EA, due to some overzealous modding at the EA forums that resulted in me getting banned from there for three days, as well as BEING BANNED FROM MY GAMES for the same period. In addition, their poor customer support is becoming the stuff of legend. I am the co-founder of a BF3 clan, so if I’m to continue with that, I pretty much need to have BF3, but I’m not going to be buying any other EA games soon.

Don’t know how well it works and you might get banned if you use it.

Yeah, I heard about that and assumed it would be the sort of thing they’d get cranky about. I don’t want to run a modified version of the game, for various reasons.
I’m looking into trying Sandboxie to restrict the access that Origin would have to sift through the rest of my data.

Hoping to join you folks soon, if I can get this stuff to work.

I came across my first hacker yesterday afternoon. Spawning was instant death. I spawned in the game once, into a LAV and died instantly. After my team stopped respawning the hacker left. How do you report hackers to EA? It is convoluted in Steam, and I am not sure they actually do anything about it.
