Anyone heard anything on the Karland DLC? I’m supposed to get it free for my pre-order.
I think I get it for buying the collectors edition or deluxe or whatever it was.
Only copy they had at Target last night.
I’m hoping they put out a patch before the DLC. There are a few minor issues I’d like them to address first. Great game though, so much better than the COD’s.
I didn’t say that, I just said the last time people were having problems like you describe was like back in 2005. I never had problems with steam.
Anyway, the thing that’s stupid about this whole thing is that there’s no real origin integration in the game, but they force you to have it anyway. For steamworks games, you need steam to run them - but steamworks also adds a lot. Integration with the steam friends list and social system, cloud support for saves and settings, achievements, matchmaking, etc.
But as far as I can tell, BF3 doesn’t actually use origin for anything. They’re seperate. So origin isn’t adding any value to the game, they’re only forcing you to use it because it gets people to install the origin store on their computers.
They don’t even integrate the friends lists - people who added me through battlelog I can’t even talk to in game because battlelog and origin friends are seperate, and battlelog friend chat is only works through the webpage. You can’t even access battelog friends using the origin overlay. It’s just designed so stupidly for no reason that I can figure out.
I don’t know why the campaign needs to be structured like walking down a hallway. It’s visually terrific, don’t get me wrong, but this stuff is par for course on first person shooters lately and it doesn’t have to be that way. Doom for instance had choices, different ways to go or chances to attack certain areas differently. Problem solving is what games are all about and relentless straight-jacket shooting galleries is not it.
The multiplayer is awesome and that’s really all I got it for, still it’s a shame that that’s all most people and I have come to expect.
Bah, I am getting cant connect to EA server messages on the 360. I was able to log in earlier in the day, but either EA has not gotten their hardware fixed yet, or its totally swamped and I have to wait a few more hours.
The nice thing I have seen about the gameplay, is that it has not really changed all that much. Different maps, but I could very well be playing bad company 1 or 2, and none of the annoying repetitive chatter that the NPC’s did on BF1.
Many hours will be spent on this game, and I might very well delay buying Assasins Creed and Drakes Fortune or a bit.
One thing I dont think I have noticed so far , is artillery support. The machine gunner, had a pair o binocs that called in Arty in BC2, and an actual field piece in BC1 that could be accessed by any character, the fighter jets area very much welcome addtition, and I cant wait to try one out, to see how different it was from the Front lines, fuel of war multiplayer.
Declan
I’m ChancreSore in Origin and BF3. I was in the secondary server getting my bindings situated when I was booted by an admin. I hadn’t saved so now I have to do it all over again.
To those of you who still want to use the steam overlay while running bf3 (so people can see what you’re playing, and you can still talk to your steam friends, etc.) here’s how:
Go to your games library and click add a game at the bottom left.
Add a non steam game.
Find origin on the installed programs list, or if it’s not there, figure out where it is, probably c:\program files(x86)\origin or something.
Find Origin on your games library, right click it, go to properties, rename it to Battlefield 3.
Now make sure origin is closed. Find the Battlefield 3 game in your steam library and launch it - that actually launches origin. Now go to the battlelog and find a game and join it normally. When BF3 launches, you should be able to shift-tab and get the steam overlay, and your status will say that you’re “in non-steam game Battlefield 3”
You’ll have to close origin after you leave the game, otherwise it’ll still list you as playing it while origin is open.
Oh, and Gilded, no one would’ve booted you, but I noticed this on the battlelog page:
It may update automatically so you might not have to do it, but if you continue to have the problem try that.
So this game is finally what compelled me to update from Windows XP to Windows 7. I installed 7 last night and I’m in the process of downloading BF3, so hopefully it will be done soon.
Looking forward to hopping on and playing with some guys that I’ve played with before in other games like TF2 and L4D. My origins name is Cowboy8467 so feel free to add me.
Okay, well I said I had issues, as did most of the people I knew that were trying to use this new service, and you and said it would have been 2005 or so…
The point is, most new things don’t come out looking like something that has been in service for 5+ years.
Much the way people tear apart new MMOs these days based on them not being as polished as WOW when the new game in question has been live for 2 weeks.
Either way, I agree that the addition of the Origin service seems like just a way to get a whole bunch of people to install it.
Maybe it’s a conspiracy and that program will make all of our towers into alien terra-forming devices, ATMOS style? (Cue Doctor Who theme…)
I got schooled a lot last night after all the SDMB folks took off. Ended up in a few games with McNally later on, though we weren’t on Vent any longer.
Biggest issue for me, besides the fact that I suck, is the gear desparity. I can only imagine if you start this game after 6 months to a year.
Anyway, I finally got a red dot style sight for my primary and I think a new Glock 17 for side arm.
Lots of tank gunning and repairing (seems to be a good combo, as I can jump out and fix up the tank while the driver is still dealing giant sheels of doom to the enemy) and lots of chances to nail people but just plain missing.
Any of you have upgraded weapons and attachments?
Does that make your weapon stay more stable at all?
The thing bounces around like crazy, even if I rip off a short, controlled burst.
Oh, I also took out a lot of tanks and APCs with the engineer as well as a plane or two with the stinger I unlocked.
I think this may be the role for me.
Hey GuildedLily, when you get a chance, can you apply to the platoon again?
New video. I shot a tankshell across the map and hit Kinthalis and Torus in a helicopter. Epic.
Heard someone ask about the 100yrd grenade lob while we were playing last night.
I ran into that a bit myself.
Could it be grenade launcher maybe?
I still have yet to get into a game and really play with a squad, by the time I joined you guys you were all kinda ready to quit and take a break and we were on that one attack/defend map with the big globe towers. Played it again a few times and it was kinda meh.
Is there a way to track down your squad in game, other than the green icons? Seems once I get killed I have a hard time getting back with my squad, of course they probably just don’t care to wait for me.
Also, I made a few friends by waiting around in tanks/jeeps/boats instead of just jetting off.
Thanks to Beef for that tip.
It just makes more sense to try and fill every seat if you can.
Can’t watch video right now, was the chopper airborne or on the ground?
Either way, nice shooting.
Hell, I missed an Abrams from 30 feet away while under fire with an RPG, somehow.
During the deployment after death you can choose to spawn on your squad, if any are left alive.
Every time I play I hop on Vent. I was on there last night at the later game.
Yeah, I figured you may have been by the time I noticed you I had logged off of Venty and was meaning to be done for the night, but those last few games got pretty good. Had some intense ones right before I logged.
I finally figured out about the spawn points after asking you all in Vent, but I don’t usually see an option to spawn on my squad, I am probably just missing it.
Here’s a question, is there a way to switch seats in a vehicle without exiting?
Say, I get in and it puts me inside a jeep/APC and I want to run the gun.
Is that possible?
Yes. I don’t know the key off-hand but you cna go to options and keybindings to see what keys change your seat.
F1-F6 changes to the various seats in vehicles. There’s also a cycle seat key, I’m not sure what it is, but it’s best just to jump right to the seat you’re interested in with the function keys. Typically F1 = driver, F2 = gunner, F3 = first passenger slot… slight variations depending on vehicle.
Ahh, I saw that on the list of commands but it didn’t really explain what it did.
That will be helpful, thanks.
