According to cinescape.com Sci Fi channel has greenlighted (greenlit?) for production of 13 eps. Those of us who liked the revamp will be looking forward to seeing what…
… will become of Boomer and other unknown Cylons
… will happen to the new President
… sort of adventures this new fleet will encounter, given Moore’s comment about not wanting this show to be another “planet of the week” series
not sure on this one. There were parts of the revision i really enjoyed, but hate hate hate the new Starbuck and really dislike a few other aspects. Don’t know if i will be watching.
Cool, I watched the miniseries and enjoyed it quite well. I seem to be one of the few who liked the new Starbuck. My only complaint about the series was the doctor fellow and Number 6. It felt very unnessisary and out of place in the story compared to everything else going on. Hopefully they’ll fix that.
Out of curiosity, did you watch the original series? I’m wondering if being familiar with the original series might effect how one looks at certain parts, like this one.
I like how they handled Baltar this time around. He feels a lot more real, and understandable than in the original, IMO. YMMV, though, apparently.
I love the original BG, but I’m looking forward to this one. I loved the mini-series.
Boomer being a Cylon was an interesting twist. (I know it was spoiled in the OP, I just feel better putting it in the spoiler box.)
I love the new versions of Starbuck, and Apollo, and Boomer, and Baltar…I don’t much like the new version of Adama, but Col. Tigh is looking interesting.
I also like the new look of the mechanical Cylons.
I’m not sure about giving them normalish NAMES… Lee Adama just doesn’t SOUND right to me. He’s Apollo. (I can’t remember Starbuck or Boomer’s real names…heh.) Although ‘Gaius Baltar’ has a real ring to it.
Good news, and I been wondering if this was going to happen. I was very impressed with how good the mini-series was. Love the battle music. Stands with a Fist- washte!!
I’m also glad to hear this… I really liked the “re-visioning” of the series, and thought it did some really original things with space combat, among other things. And Starbuck as a woman is just too cool, even if some of her dialogue can use improving.
That sounds great. In the mini-series they did take out the weaker elements of the original television movie (Casino Planet???.. right…), but left in alot of the stronger stuff and added more stronger stuff (plus they did the impossible by making Boxey a pretty normal kid (well normal under the circumstances) and not that evil brat you wanted to spank that was in the original).
Personally I hope Jane Seymour cameos at some point, but that is only because I have a crush on her going back to early childhood.
I also hope there will be no frelling forehead-alien-of-the-week crap. Personally I don’t want aliens in the series period. I want it to be lonely out there.
Plus I hope they revise the entire mythos of Earth/13th colony thing (which is reasonable enough since it is clocked in myth and legend and many things can be changed over time). The fact is, that stupid Erich von Daniken/Chariot of the Gods crap which was the the myth in the original series is so dated to the 70s and the weakest element of the series (both of them). Plus personally I don’t think it would fit into todays cynical ‘we need proof/canon/historical facts’ sci-fi market.
To explain myself further it would be easier to discover somewhere down the track that Earth wasn’t the 13th settled colony by a bunch of space trekkers, but it was the home world from which the 12 colonies branched out from. (Thus it sets the series well into our future - at least on the bright side there thus will be zero chance of a Galatica 1980 remake). evil laugh
I’m very happy to hear this. To me, the remake was well done, interesting and risky. When the fleet jumped leaving the STL ships to their doom, that was damn good TV. No hero came forth to save the day or rescue the fair princess.
I watched every episode of the original and even suffered through BSG:1980. So love of the old series did not cloud my judgement. I think the Cylons are way too strong in the new series but such is life.
I don’t like their prices either, and coffee’s not my thing, but I like a good hot chocolate!
I’ve never gotten the Sci-Fi channel :(, so if the series continues, please create some recognizable threads (e.g. “Battlestar Galactica {title} (Spoilers)” so that I can at least read about the episodes.
The Egyptian theme was cute in the '80s when we didn’t demand much logic as long as it was a fun romp. The remake, when they visited Earth and had those cheesy flying motorcycles, was really pushing it though (thought I’d see Ponch riding up alongside). Though, if they keep up the Egyptian theme it seems like they would run into the Stargate series. Then all you’d need is a multi-dimensional tear in the space-time continuum and you could bring Star Trek and Babylon in to create the ultimate mess.
I guess it really will be a science fiction series!! OK, everyone, watch for that moment when our memories suddenly change and we just sorta instantly “remember” the series starting back in '03. Of course, we’ll also then remember Sci Fi screwing it up and putting it on a bad night and ultimately cancelling it and it’ll be joined in the same threads where we mention other 1-season wonders …
Going out on a limb here. My prediction: they’ll do a really good job, be a popular and critical success, and establish the basis for a strong multi-season story arc, with intriguing character development. The season will end on a tantalizing cliffhanger… and Sci-Fi will then cancel the series and put on more profitable reality show in which a con man fakes evidence of reincarnation.
I predict that it will look good but the stories will be cheap re-writes of the original series and they’ll throw in near-naked chicks to keep the fan boys attention.
Oh wait, that’s Star Trek.
I liked the mini-series. Sure I had a few gripes but overall I liked it. I was a little freaked out when I found that wasn’t Dr. Bashir playing Baltar. That guy is like his clone. I also like the idea that anyone could be a cylon. Could make for some interesting plots if they don’t pull out something like ‘Adama’ is a cylon.
