Battlestar Galactica 2.11 — "Resurrection Ship Part 1" (draidus contact! spoilers!)

Daaaaaayum, but I like this show! What with the episode title ending with “Part 1” I have to say I’m not at all surprised at the ending.

I think, however, that it’s pretty obvious how next week’s episode is going to go …

After the Clone Factory, and I’d like to quote athelas here, “gets Blowed Up Real Goood”, both leaders give their orders, but neither Starbuck or the other guy carries them out.

Cain and Adama realize they have a Mexican standoff and basically agree to go their separate ways. Cain sure as hell ain’t happy with it, but she finally realizes battling the Cylons is more important than her vendetta against Adama.

All I can say is “Why isn’t it next Friday already??” Argh!

Damn you, Ron Moore, with your cliffhangery goodness!

I really like the moral ambiguity of the Pegasus XO. I mean, he’s clearly tormented by the things that Cain has ordered them to do. But he’s still done them - and Cain’s willingess to use him as a trouble-shooter suggests that he was very, very involved in the details of putting together Cain’s war crimes. I expect him to say “I was only following orders” in an ep or two…

Also, Adama has absolutely no use for euphamism, does he? “shoot her in the head” vs. “terminate his command”.

My prediction:

The XO (the Pegasus drunk) is going to be the one shooting Admiral Cain. I’ve come to expect that from the previews; it’s the person you would least expect holding the trigger.

Elmwood: If there were money riding on it, I’d bet your side.

Me too, but I was trying to be all clever…

-Joe

I think “terminate his command” was in terms of execute the entire bridge…

Wo.
Surely she would send more than a middle aged fat guy for that.
Besides, who would she replace them with, the civilian comic from one of the ships she torched? “Jokes, Engine Repairs, Hyper Jumps! I’ve here all week! Try the brisket!”

Yes. She sent a squad of marines for that.
Damn fine show. Damn, damn, damn fine show.

By your command.

I miss that sound. The monotone, robotic answer…

<sigh>

I’ll just have to settle for absolutely first-rate, bar-none TV.

Here you go. (February 22)

Damn straight.

Golly.

Gee whiz! What a corker.

I like elmwood’s prediction, that works good. Can’t think of much else to say right now. It’s only been over for about 5 minutes.

Wow.

Mine:

It is the Pegasus’ Number Six. Baltar will go to kill her after the Resurrection ship is destroyed, he’ll either give her the gun, or she will take it from him, and she’ll go for the captain. This will get the writers out of the problem of how the Pegasus crew will react to Cain’s assassination by another colonial soldier and leave Adama the highest ranking officer in the fleet, therefore in charge of both ships.

I watched the cliffhanger episode right before this, and I was a little worried about how comparatively low-key the first twenty minutes of the new show were compared to the intensity of the prior installment’s climax.

But when Roslin whispered, “We’ve gotta kill her,” I got a big, slow grin.

Oh yeah, baby. This is the show. And the show does not disappoint.
I know, I know, they have to have a subpar episode sooner or later. Even the best shows can’t keep it up every single time. And I know when it happens, it’s going to sting. But while the current run lasts, I’m going to enjoy the hell out of it.

Ahh, but you guys are forgetting any possible parallels to the original story line, [where Cain was played by Lloyd Bridges…]

My prediction:
It doesn’t matter who is sticking the gun in Cain’s face - the XO reveals what she has planned, she backs off, Adama backs down on his order.

Cain slowly begins to wise up/feel just a little guilty… realizes she will never fit in with the fleet. She decides (privately) to go on a suicide mission and then “jump to anywhere” at the end, once the “resurrection ship” is dead.

Peg and Gal succeed in taking out said base stars and ships, and it’s unclear if Cain was ever was able to make the jump after successful sicide run on “the big one”.
Oh, and I almost forgot:

I have been waiting to see how (and if) they get Baltar out of the fleet and into the presence of the bulk of the Cylons. Maybe an escape with the #6 from Pegasus during a battle scene is how it will happen.

Here’s a scene I’d LOVE to see in next week’s episode, even though it doesn’t really make sense:

Rosslyn is dying as the attack on the Resurrection Ship (RS) commences. There are a lot of dramatic cuts back and forth as we see the fighters and the president both fighting for their lives. Eventually, though, Rosslyn’s eyes close, and she’s dead. But then we see them reopen. She gets up, looks around, and sees missles streaking towards her. She just has time to realize she’s on the RS in a new body before everything explodes.
If this actually happens, you all owe me a hundred bucks.

When she was talking about getting one of those new bodies with Adama I looked at my roommates and said, “How fucking crazy would it be if she turned out to be a cylon?”

I believe her words were “Terminate his command, starting with Adama”. That’s why the squad of Space Marines (“Razors”, did she call them?). I’m having trouble seeing why nobody took her out long before, particularly during the massacre of the civilian families. The rest of the Pegasus crew can’t *all * be that frakked up.

I like elmwood’s prediction, as well as the consistency with the TOS plot (the suicide run, jump to whereverthehell iright after all the old Galactica crew makes it back, new ep next week centered on Boxey and his mechanical dog).

One other guess, presented for your approval:Cain doesn’t get shot at all - the gun pointed at here by the person to whom she says “Frak you!” is the civilian engineer crew chief, who is taken down by the Praetorian Guard before he pulls the trigger.

Baltar isn’t going to escape and join the Cylons, not even in the series-ender (which will happen someday, :sob:). His motivations are different from Count Baltar’s in TOS - Dr. Baltar isn’t power-hungry or deluded that he has any real respect or support from the Cylons; he seems to know he’s being used but is still essentially loyal to his fellow humans.

Doesn’t look good for Roslin anymore - I’d been sure Mary McDonnell’s agent would come up with a new deal for her and there would be a miracle cure.
