It was a smart alec reply to “I can’t stand Athena”. Some Doers like her a lot, etc.
The glowing oozy looked like it was some kind of Toaster gut booby trap, like the GSP ™ Maybe not.

I missed last week’s episode, but apparently, I didn’t miss anything in plot arc. That’s a bad sign. This ep didn’t even feel like the setup for something. It felt like filler. Someone needs to give the writers some caffeine or something.
My recall may be off, but Tory did tell Balthar that he didn’t have any important converts to the new faith right? And then, we all of sudden see him targetting Chief. I think Balthar is still the same old, same old. I think what we are seeing with Chief is Balthar scheming to get him on side. I thought Aaron Douglas was superb in the grief scene where he was holding the gun to his head, fine acting imho, and the only worthy part of the episode. What I wanted to happen was for him to kill himself… only because I want to see what happens - do the missing cylon models resurrect? If so, where? That would be an interesting story instead of what they are doing now. Mind you, I’m really new to the show… I just started watching two weeks ago, and caught up really rapidly on seasons 1-3, so maybe I’ve missed something.
No, Vipers can’t jump. Seems to me a Raptor would have been a better tool for their recon mission.
I don’t see what is the big deal about checking out the base ship. If Leoben knows they are there then the Cylons do if they cared. If they want to destroy an unarmed freighter and it’s complement of two fighters, they could easy do so.
Why can’t they just jump in an out like they always do.
The male Hybrid from Razor told Kendra Shaw that Kara Thrace “will lead the human race to it’s end. They must not follow her.” Shaw’s radio went out and the nuke detonated so nobody, not even Kara, knows about his prediction. He was also much more coherant that the female Hybrid.
The ship is literally a garbage scow. The Vipers are the only thing they can shoot with.
Based on this and the preview I posted in the spoiler box, it really sounds like Starbuck is going to find Earth and the consequences are going to be negative. But maybe the “end of the human race” means that Cylon/human hybrids are the future of both races, with the separate races ending. Not sure how finding Earth will cause this to happen; wasn’t there something about being near Earth that makes the Cylons sick? Maybe I’m just looking for a way for Starbuck’s mission not to end in disaster as it seems doomed to.
Finally got to see this episode, and… it’s all set-up for next episode. Again. sigh
And there’s some serious lack of continuity. Wasn’t Adama going to reassign Tyrol? Yet he’s still doing Galactica maintenance, and apparently wandering into the Viper launch tubes at will (is there any security on this frakkin’ ship? after somebody just got launched out herself from there?). Also: anybody remember, Tyrol is supposed to be the fleet’s Union Rep? Anybody remember seeing him do anything in that job since the one-shot ep they gave it to him in? Nicky disappears randomly, and is always howling his head off when he reappears at random. Stay away, kid.
We can only hope that Galen has Helo’s workout plan, because some jumprope isn’t going to get rid of all those many doughnuts.
And the stupid thing about Athena on the Demetrius isn’t her actions – it’s everybody else’s towards her. Crazy Cylon shows up, no one knows if they can trust him… why not ask the Cylon they do trust about him?
I may have spotted a continuity error. Two weeks ago, the population was 39,676, then Callie took a stroll in space. Last week, the population was 39,675. This week, the population was 39,676 again.
Or a baby got born somwhere in the fleet.
In daycare?
And where the hell is Hera? Why would Adama send both her parents on a crazy dangerous mission with an unbalanced Starbuck? Doesn’t make sense.
By the same token, you’d think she’d speak up and offer whatever info she has on Leoben, but she doesn’t. She just manipulates her husband to do what she wants with emotions instead of facts. Though honestly, she might not have any relevant info about Leoben’s motives WRT Starbuck. A lot has changed since she left Cylon society.
Did anyone notice Nicki’s reactions during Tyrol’s workout? He’s all quiet and the radio is broadcasting Baltar’s “sermon” and then Tyrol turns it off. Immediately the baby starts crying. Tyrol looks annoyed, turns the radio back on and Nicki shuts up. Wierd huh?
Yeah, I brought up Hera the first week we were made aware of Demetrius’ crew. That just makes no sense at all.
Superb acting in this episode from Aaron Douglas and James Callis.
I was also wondering if Galen was going to pull the trigger…I thought maybe he wanted to do it just to see what would happen–would he be resurrected like the other Cylons, etc.–not because he didn’t want to live. The only problem I have with Galen’s trying to deal with Callie’s death is that I got the impression that ultimately he realized that he had “settled” for her and his true love was Sharon. So I thought he would have an easier time getting over her. Also, it seems Galen has become disinterested in his son. He made Tigh change Nicky’s diaper a couple weeks ago and in this episode the radio was Nicky’s babysitter. Wonder where that is going…
As for Baltar, I can totally understand these people being under his spell. He is mesmerizing for me to watch. I am utterly fascinated by the arc his character has taken all throughout the series. These humans are hungry for someone to answer all the questions they have about why all this has happened–ie the woman asking how she should deal with her family being killed in the attack–and the gods and texts are not providing the answers they are looking for. To me, Baltar us absolutely sincere in his “sermons”. I do not get the feeling that he is doing all this for self-preservation, which has motivated him since we first met him on Caprica. Interesting that Virtual Six never made an appearance in this episode to tell him what to do…!
Right, but they aren’t going to shoot their way out of trouble anyway. I still think they should have brought one along.
Also, how do they board the Vipers if they are strapped to the side of the ship?
My first thought was that there is room for only the two vipers, but they were lugging the Cylon ship around. They use space suits to get to the vipers. I suppose they could have pilots sitting in then all the time, like SAC used to do.
Was the final season completed?
Problem is, he’s just telling everyone the Gods don’t exist, but otherwise providing no answers. If he’s proposing a one God, then it’s time to cough up the same explanations as to why this one God had everyone killed and caused so much suffering.
It’s being filmed right now, finishing what was left off at the strike. Katee Sackhoff said they should film the finale sometime in July.
So far I’ve been at least slightly disappointed with the odd numbered episodes. I dig me some personal stories, as long as we get some new insight into the characters, some new perspective on their situations and their problems. Last week with Tyrol and with Tigh, we absolutely did. They both reached their breaking points, and they both received beat-downs (one metaphorical, one literal). But what we required this week was the narrative fallout from their emotional problems.
Why did no one question Tigh about his bruised and bloody face? Is he frakking the Six? If so, how does he justify turning off the cameras every time he visits? Does he see his dead wife every time? Is he pumping her for information as well as for squeals of delight?
Who is the new deck chief? How did the knuckledraggers react to their new boss? What would Tyrol say to his replacement? Would he be giving advice on the side to keep the planes in the air? Would he be gruff and impersonable?
Tyrol being upset, investigating his wife’s murder to no result, and then shaking Baltar’s hand just is not sufficient. There are a bazillion questions that the last episode raised, and this episode left every single one of them hanging in mid-air. The Starbuck storyline was similarly predictible:
“I want to work with the Cylons because I’m crazy!”
“Sorry, Starbuck, that’s a frakking stupid thing to do.”
Well, obviously. Ending the episode with the mutiny was just poor form when it was clear before the episode even started that there was going to be a mutiny. How the characters respond to the mutiny is the more interesting material, but we just didn’t get to that point. I know the pay-off is coming, and I know (from previous experience) that the pay-off will be so fanfrakkintastic that these set up episodes will be left behind in the haze of giddy intoxication that will come from the mid-season finale. But I don’t want them to drag their feet so much before they get there.
On the bright side, nothing so far has reached the abysmal depths of, say, “Black Market” or “The Woman King”, but there is only one season left, gods damn it. I want them to make it count.
An interview with Ed Olmos today helps explain a few things (but not many). The quality of the performances we’ve seen may be due largely to the actors not knowing anything more than we do about what’s going to happen until they get the scripts, right before shooting. Hogan, for instance, did a great job of making Tigh appear outraged and confused about being a Cylon because *he * was outraged about his character being turned into a villain.
Olmos also says A whole lot more people’s gonna get kilt not that that’s a surprise, and The atmosphere of the show remains dark, tense, and ambguous which is what we all love about the show anyway.
Oh, and I think Adama just cooled off about busting Tyrol. Still should help find him a daycare provider, though.
