My memory isn’t what it used to be, but I remember that Baltar’s liaison in the original series was a high-end, cone-headed, bright-light brained, droid named “Lucifer”.
Two weeks ago, there was a disagreement between Baltar’s #6 and the Pegasus #6.
Baltar’s #6: “God will not forgive this outrage!”,
Pegasus #6: “God forgives all.”
It seemed as if there was a “good angle”/“bad angle” effect, done in some cartoon shows.
This discrepency has led me to believe that maybe the authors are dipping yet again into the mystique of the original series – Could Baltar’s #6 be the new incarnation of ‘lucifer’?
I’ve seen Six as Lucifer reimaged since the beginning. She’s Baltar’s foil, and makes snarky comments. That was the essence of the Lucifer character.
Of course, she’s a bit easier to look at, and doesn’t have that sly pseudo-Asian vibe (kimono, geisha-walk, slanty eyes, pointy head). But I kind of miss the twirly, sparkly lights…
I also suspected that she was, but this bifurcation between what the cylons apparently believe with their base programming and what Baltar’s #6 is spouting, seem possibly to be slightly at odds… I think I see where it’s going, but obviously, I don’t know how. In the original series, there were a large number of non-drone cylons who were computerized thinkers/commanders, but their goals seemed far dryer than what Balter’s #6 seems to constantly propose – and their monotheistic goals, etc.
I am still waiting anxiously to see if they actually bring in the super-race of “angels” from the original series, or if they play up the, Starbuck’s father scenario, Baltar’s ascension to the Cylon military ranks (if that indeed happens – I wanna see an imperious leader!) and maybe even Starbuck’s mysterious mythically-told death.
But, we just never know how closely the new writers are going to follow the old story-lines… I did notice in that same episode that
They actually used the “angel approach” noise from the orignal series during one of Apollo’s visions as he’s floating in space and nearly hit by a cylon mirauder – I was disappointed when nothing came of it.
As the original series went on, we seemed to see more and more of the Cylon hierarchy. The silver Centurions were basically the grunts. The gold Centurions seemed to be like noncoms. And the IL-model Cylons like Lucifer behaved like staff officers.
However, when we see one of the Cylon worlds in “The Living Legend”, the common Cylons who show up to see the Imperious Leader are IL-series Cylons. Maybe they had no “civilians”.
Lucifer, though, always seemed to be a little bit subversive – sometimes it seemed as though he was following his own agenda, maybe the Imperious Leader’s, but definately not Baltar’s. Plus, he was conniving and often manipulated Baltar, and he obviously though Baltar was a putz. Which he was.
Alas, that my computer crash erased the source of this, so I can’t cite it; it was probably one of his podcasts:
Ron Moore has stated that he’s not interested in redoing any of the Count Iblis / White Ship storyline. So (hopefully) no angels-in-spaaaace for nuBSG.
Myself, I’m hoping that the Imperious Leader shows up.
