The fact that none of the promotional announcements up to this point includes anything like a detailed description of what the “webisodes” are going to be makes me think they probably aren’t going to be especially impressive. Hand puppets, perhaps.
Ooh! Ooh! Starbuck beating Apollo with a stick! Cool!
Frak! You didn’t fraking frak the fraker! WHAM! WHAM!
Maybe they’ll sell them via iTunes and other such outlets? You can already download all the BG episodes that way anyhow, so webcasting is hardly so wild a concept anymore. My guess: If this stuff is free, it won’t have production values much higher than fanfic like Red v Blue. However, if you have to buy it, I expect something more like the better of the semi-indy content provided just prior to the release of the last two installments in the Matrix trilogy in terms of quality, providing much the same value. It’ll be optional, but only just, and one might get a richer sense of the main BG arc if they’re in on the backstory. If they sell it, they’ll milk the fanboy money cow pretty effectively, and no need to meddle with regular airtime.
Or maybe with Barbie and Ken dolls, like that one website that does soap operas?
