I guess I’m wondering if we have any information on how the remote control mechanism works. It’s a pretty major strike against the concept of Cylon free will IMO.
Is the only time we’ve actually seen this automated programmed action with Boomer shooting Abama? I guess you could also include the four hearing and following the music.
Any way, there has been no evidence of it in any Cylon who wasn’t a sleeper. If it was possible it seems they could overrule deviant/rebellious behavior as witnessed on the Cylon ship with Six, et. al. I think the whole rebellion shows that there are no overriding commands and the toasters are finally taking steps out of the hive mentality. Perhaps because of their close association with the human race.
OK, sorry. She also sabotaged the water tanks on Galactica.
This is a good point. I remain skeptical, though, and wonder why only sleepers could be remotely triggered. The whole thing seems like that was a plot device in the Boomer storyline that has kind of fallen by the wayside.
I agree Athena’s free will is questionable, but in terms of the show I accept it’s just an established fact that isn’t going to be explored too much deeper.
The Cylon fleet chasing the humans seems to be a small task force separated from Cylon Central back in the Twelve Colonies. Maybe the farther away, in space and time, they get from the last time they logged into the CyloNet, the more independence from Imperious Leader (and all of his passive-aggressive crap) they are forced to develop?
I don’t see how there can be Resurrection ships for the Five, if the other meatbags don’t even know those models exist. They have to be one-offs. Damn lucky thing they all escaped the Holocaust and Diaspora (or IS it luck? ) Anyway, they all have to survive.
Yep, Tory is embracing and wallowing in her new self, the sense of identity and belonging she didn’t seem to have as a human. She didn’t kill Callie just to protect a secret; she enjoyed it as much as Six enjoyed snapping the baby’s neck back in the original mini-series.
Also, think about it-- the 4 we’ve seen are all extremely close to the center of power on Galactica. Can that possibly be a coincidence? Or were they programmed to somehow get to those positions? Makes you wonder.
Not scoring high on my mercyometer. More merciful would have ben calling off the attack, or if that was outside her power, warning the humans what was coming. Who’s to say that baby wouldn’t have been one of the survivors in the fleet if given the chance?
I thought she looked rather surprised when it happened – probably the first time she’d encountered an infant, and surprised at how fragile they are. Cylons, we’ve noted, are not fragile themselves.
So, did we ever learn who left Adama the note in the miniseries about there being 12 models of Cylon? Previous speculation had been that it was Boomer, but seemed unlikely. Could it have been Tigh or the Chief?
Crying, not exactly. But not grinning and twisting her mustache, either. Uh, I mean, metaphorically, y’know.
The neck-snapping Six had an extremely complicated reaction, I think, in the few seconds we saw of her after the incident. She seemed genuinely interested in the baby while she was holding it, with honest enjoyment, or at least appreciation, of its size, fragility, and uniqueness. After it was back in the crib, she reached out to it with curiosity more than anything: is it really as fragile as all that? When she killed it, she withdrew her hand in surprise. And as she walked away, she was clearly struggling: that was pretty horrible, sure, but what’s about to happen is even worse, so how bad was it, really?
It’s an enormously ambiguous moment. Like all the best moments of the show.
Has anybody noticed that Caprica 6 - the one in the brig on Galactica - seems to be more aware of the Final Five than the other Cylons? Now that we are talking about the mini-series I remember a scene where she is with Gaius, then turns around and says something like “there you are, I was wondering when you’d get here” but we never see who she is talking to. Was it one of the Final Five? Was she getting the final travel plans from them so she could send a message letting the Cylons know when they could commence their attack - or more imporantly, where not to attack because that’s where the final Cylons were located? Is she the link between the two groups?
Like other posters, I’ve read the BSG discussion threads for a while, but haven’t really felt comfy with posting in them before now. I’d like to thank everybody who’s participated, as this thread has been a blast and I’ve been a diehard BSG fan since I first saw the miniseries and fell in love.
Heck, we’ve kept this thread going for so long, we’ve nearly reached the time when the next episode is going to air.
There’s just something cool about that.
I’ve followed the threads since the first season. I’m generally averse to prolific posting, but I’m gonna make an effort to post more, especially since I had a conversation with my friends about the possibility that Starbuck is the “dying leader”, but I didn’t think to share my brilliance with y’all till someone else mentioned it.
