BCS Picture Muddled Yet Again

Great game between #2 USC and unranked UCLA. UCLA ends up pulling off the victory. Now, Michigan’s odd decision of having their season over by this time of the year looks like a relatively sound one.

Florida or Michigan faces Ohio State? It certainly looks like Michigan, that’s for sure.

Great deflection/interception, by the way. Much dap to that young man.

Christ almighty, now Florida gives up 17 straight points to Arkansas. Amazing play by the defensive end.

Good night for football, yessiree.

Welp! Looks like I’ve got me my own personal thread, here!
Florida’s looking frazzled AND they’ve burnt their last timeout in the beginning of the fourth quarter? Urban Meyer’s “genius” might be at question, here.

I vote for Anyone But Michigan Again… but I have a feeling I’m going to lose this vote. Which I guess just means that I won’t watch the championship game to the college football season that has given me the most enjoyment of any in a long time. Which is alright, I s’pose.

(…except for the rest of the nation who may actually care that we’ll never know how either of the Big 10 schools stacks up against any of the top teams from the Pac-10 or SEC, both of which are generally regarded as Much Better Overall than the Big 10)

Odd decision by Michigan? In Big Ten country, you don’t really want to end the season in December, my goodness.

At one point, I thought that disastrous shovel pass by Florida would be the last nail in the coffin. Now an impressive win tonight could leapfrog them over Michigan, but I doubt it. If your only loss on the year is by three points at the number one team in the country, it’s tough to see how anyone beats that. Michigan should get the rematch.

Oh, I’m aware of Big Ten country. We live in the same area of the same state.
Is interest in Michigan-Ohio State II really as low as Yankees-Red Sox?

Florida has dusted off the old single wing-QB takes snap and simply runs with it. 38-28 8 min left in 4th…

What’s odd? The season is over for most teams; it’s a very light schedule this week.

Florida is going to have to look better than they have so far to jump Michigan. I predict a rematch in the Fiesta Bowl.

I just think we’ve had one of the rather more dynamic seasons in recent memory, where anyone and everyone has looked vulnerable on any given Saturday… and we’re on the verge of a nat’l championship that will involve two teams that have played zilch for schedules, especially outside of their own (rather mediocre from #4 on down, and OSU didn’t even play #3) conference - a Texas team with a freshman QB who wasn’t what he has become, and a ND team that has given up points to anyone and everyone.

That was an impressively long sentence, but basically, if say Michigan wins the BCS Championship by beating ND (independent and overrated), beating the rank and file of the Big 10, and splitting against OSU, how in the world do I know how they stack up against anyone else? I mean, this team had trouble with Ball State, for goodness sake. OSU is almost worse, not even having played Wisconsin, but at least they would have swept Michigan; still, though, how do they compare to ANYONE ELSE? Isn’t that, like, the whole point of the bowls in the first place? This might be one of those years where the BCS would actually be worse than the traditional matchups.

Helluva momentum swing, eh?

I have zero interest in seeing an OSU-Michigan rematch. (That would be a very good way to kill the BCS, by the way.)

Step outside the conference, whydontcha? Bowl season is about inter-sectional games.

Florida clinches the SEC. I hope we’ll see 'em against Ohio State.

You know, being a Big Ten kind of guy, I agree. I think it should be one and two for the national championship, and the rest…well…you know. A sidebar, #1 in the Pac 10 and #1 in the Big Ten should ALWAYS be the Rose Bowl unless one of the #1s is one or two in the nation.
I’d like to see the matchups with other conferences so we can hear about how the Big Ten sucks and how they do well usually every year.

Florida gets KILLED by Ohio State.

I think it’s going to be close to see who gets the nod for the title game. Michigan’s got a good case, but Florida’s got an SEC title.

Maybe, maybe not. But I think we should all get a chance to see.

To be fair, Michigan intentionally took out the first line that game to rest the players since they didn’t get a bye.
As a Michigan alum, I naturally want to see Michigan rematch OSU, just so we can beat them. I am aware of all the problems this would bring about, however, so in my mind, I’ll just pretend that the national championship game was already played. Besides, much as I hate to say anything positive about OSU, they’ll kill Florida.

Who in the SEC compares to Ohio State? God knows Kentucky doesn’t (and the fact that we’re going to the Music City Bowl is a joke), Georgia and Tennessee weren’t in the same league as OSU this year, and Auburn’s not there either.

Well it’s sort of hard to answer that question until OSU steps outside their conference, isn’t it?

Dunno. I hope Florida is. They have the same record as Michigan, they played a tougher schedule, and they are the proud owners of a shiny new conference championship.

Plus, of course, we already know Michigan doesn’t compare to OSU. Why give them another chance?
