Would you care to rephrase that, Laddie?
I dinnae ken whit wis wrang wi’ whit I said.
Doohan didnae make a bonny job of oor accent.
Hoots mon etc etc…
I think Simon Pegg will do fine. The only casting so far that seems odd to me is John Cho as Sulu. Cho’s a good actor, but for Pete’s sake, he’s Korean.
So what’s with McCoy? Piper was ship’s doctor in Where No Man Has Gone Before.
Oh, like the timeline hasn’t taken enough hits to justify a few retcons. It’s either that, or the rest of the fans who DON’T memorize these details are going to leave the movie saying, “Wait, so why didn’t they have Young McCoy? Or Young Chekov? I didn’t pay good money to see banter between Young Spock and Doctor Nobody. I want my fourteen dollars back.”
I like how the BBC article says that “original Spock Nimoy will have a cameo role.” He’s Original Spock! Like Coke Classic, Original Spock never goes out of style. I hope Zachary Quinto as New Spock gets a better reception than New Coke.
You don’t have to memorize it, just watch TV.
Well then maybe McCoy and Chekov show up for the movie, and then get called away to do something else during Where No Man Has Gone Before. It’s not impossible. Kind of like how, no matter what Worf was doing on Deep Space Nine, he somehow always showed up on the Enterprise for the movies?
Or maybe Piper had to briefly take over as Chief Medical Officer after that transporter malfunction, when McCoy’s molecules accidentally exceeded Warp 10 and he turned into a lizard for a while. Thus neatly accounting for his anxiety about transporters! See how neatly it all starts to fit together?
Ah, that would explain his transporter phobia. Continuity! I love it!
So, that means that Chekov can stow away and be the annoying kid that keeps saving the day.
Oh dear God. I’m so sorry I started this thread now.

I can see it now. To a no-name actor about to beam down: “You got red on you.”
Russians are wery precocious.
We will need an annoying mechanical pet dog…
Or a robot that goes “BideeBideeBidee”… of course, his rank will have to be “Acting Ensign”
I thought it was “Busy Busy Busy”.
I’m not a stickler for tiny details, but it would be kind of ridiculous to pretend that the (later) 34-year-old captain and his 22-year-old ensign were at some point in the Academy together. Unless – it’s one of those time travel things they used to love to completely not understand on the old show.
Nope. Twiki was voiced by Mel Blanc. “Bidibidibidi” (or “BideeBideeBidee”) was probably influenced by Blanc’s Porky Pig stammer.
Whatever he said, he was an annoying little bastard. Looks somewhat like the golem.
At any rate, here is a just released publicity photo of Chekov and his pet robot.
A lot of you seem to be assuming that it will be set at Starfleet Academy, or the Enterprise’s first mission, and therefore are pointing out contradictions to canon.
I’d just like to point out that the story is being kept very carefully under wraps and it has not been leaked what it is actually about or when it is set. Any synopses thus far printed are speculation only.
