Well I’m 20 and I never really experimented with beards yet and recently I got a strong desire to have a short beard or a stub if that’s the name used (I’m not a native English speaker) , for example the Jason Statham,Ben Affleck type, so long story short, do I need an electrical trimmer, which I currently don’t have, or can I do it somehow else until I buy a trimmer? Also is that trimmer thing just the usual one you get a haircut with in hair salons or are they a different type?
The first thing you need to do is have this thread moved to IMHO. I alerted the mods.
You can trim your beard with a razor or some scissors, but it’s a lot harder. Buy a beard trimmer. They’re cheap and handy to have.
Moved to IMHO from General Question, as you’ll gets many opinions.

I wear that facial hair style and yes, you want a beard trimmer. I’m sure any beard trimmer will do, but like anything you get what you pay for. No, do not use the same clippers that a barber would use on your head. It’s too big.
I like my Wahl trimmer. IIRC it was middle of the road in price, maybe $30? Rechargeable battery, a bunch of different length guides. But I really just do the edges and keep my stache outa my food. The barber does a really nice job for the every-eight-weeks trim.
I have a beard and use a Wahl trimmer. I find that the #3 guide gives me the length I want, about 3/8" or so.
I wear that style too, with one difference: I keep it trimmed up to the jaw line. I have a rather thick neck and think it makes me look not as beefy (I use Riker as an example. His beard makes him look chunky. If you have a neck like DJ Qualls, you can probably let it fill in back to the Adam’s apple. Just an opinion and, of course, YMMV) .
But yes, beard trimmer.
Wow… I have to trim every 2-4 weeks to keep things looking professional. I shave the neck and upper cheeks every few days. I’ve only paid someone for a beard trim a few times and I’ve never liked it as much as what I can do. A mid-priced beard trimmer has worked fine for me for years. I’ve worn a beard for (gasp) 33 years and am on my third or fourth although I think I need a new one soon.
The worst part is trying to keep all of the trimmings from getting all over the bathroom. Also… trim before you shower and not after unless you really like scratching all day.
Better yet: trim IN the shower (before you turn on the water). Just make sure you have one of those plastic trap things over the drain.
I trim my beard about every 10 days or so. I also cut my own hair about every two weeks with a Wahl clipper. #2 all over and into the shower. Did I mention I’m not vain?
I’ve had the same cheap Conair trimmer used once a week or so for over 20 years. I use the plastic guide for the overall length grooming and bare for my neck and cheeks.
Once in a blue moon put a drop of oil between the blades.
And yeah the mess. If I let my beard go all mountain man Duck Dynasty looking some winters, I put down newspaper before I trim it down.
I go to my regular barber whenever I start to resemble Lon Chaney Jr too much. He charges me five bucks for a beard n’ moustache trim, and I usually give him a ten.
I also own a pair of “beard scissors” I got at the drug store, which I use on the 'stache when it starts to get in my soup. Yes, cleaning up the debris in the bathroom sink is a real pain in the ass.
Ya beat me to it. Yep, cheap Wahl trimmer, and it works fine.
I’ve got “muttonchops.” The trimmer does the edging, and I use scissors to keep them the right length. Trim daily, snip once a week.
(Haircut every five months.)
My honey wants to be shave. He buys a shaver and shave powder and use to do it before shower.
When you’re starting out, use a disposable razor and shaving cream to do your neck and define the edge of your beard/stubble. You want to look like you’re deliberately growing something and not just too lazy to shave. And depending on how your facial hair grows, you might want to use it on the island patches of whiskers that grow on your cheeks but really don’t connect or fill in. But yes, in time you’ll want to have a trimmer. The rechargeable ones they sell have worked fine for me.
