They’re beginning to sprout up everywhere. Personally, I blame Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy) and Samuel Breem (Iron and Wine). Give it about a year, and a good portion of the guys in your town will be looking like Grizzly Adams… then Justin Timberlake will grow one (assuming he can), and they’ll all go away.
I actually like nicely trimmed beards on men. So that’s OK by me.
I also was pretty happy about the Trucker Hat fad because, while some of my friends looked like idiots, my Dad was trendy for the 1st time in my entire life .
Hey buster, I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t lump all guys that can’t grow beards in with Justin Timberlake. That came across as a cheap shot, not that I’m defensive or overly sensitive or anything, really. I’m not. I don’t care [sub]that much[/sub] that I’m in my early 20’s and can only get a few whiskers on my chin after three days of not shaving and a couple of stray whiskers coming out of my cheeks. It is nice not having to shave twice a day or anything, but I think it would be better to have it be obvious that I had some whiskers on my face after not shaving rather than looking like I forgot to wash my upper lip.
LSLGuy, “trucker hats” are the type of baseball cap that was commonly found in the 80’s, and at truck stops. The back is kind of a mesh knitting rather than solid fabric. Bonus points if the bill and front of the hat is made out of cheap, crappy foam. The “popular” brand is “Von Dutch” or something like that. They also have all kinds of other “clever” (read: stupid) sayings on them. I thought the hats were ugly in the 80’s, and I was disgusted when I found out they’ve become trendy. Thankfully, fads seem to be passing much faster these days, and hopefully this is one that will soon be on its way out (if it isn’t already gone).
Hmmm, that’s not good news, certainly not the beard I was thinking. I haven’t seen that style around here yet, maybe it’'ll pass us by. At least it’s not the ZZTop look.
All the male members of my family and many friends have been wearing beards for years. I think most men look better with a neatly trimmed beard, they’re sexy and can hide a multitude of imperfections but I definitely don’t like the big bushy unkempt type. They seem dirty to me and are a huge turnoff. Maybe I’ve seen too many sporting food remnants.
Sam Breem?! I would not consider him part of the mainstream in any way. Hell, I doubt a lot of people have even heard of Iron and Wine. Besides, the beard just goes with his act which is, according to some concert goers, a bumbling drunk.
I like Iron and Wine I just do not think that his beard has anything to do with fashion.
