He did have a web site, though…
An email address is actually included in his user profile, but in the end I decided that such gloating would be rather ungallant and, well, unChristian.
If a diamond hard atheist such I can just let him be and simply use this thread as a lesson to all who would seek to interpret Revelation as pertaining to anything other than 1st Century Rome, then perhaps I am doing more to lead people to Christ than ephraim or his ilk ever did.
But feel free to try the address - seeing how he comes to terms with his inability to distinguish between the voices of God, Satan and his own imagination might make this thread more valueable still. If ephraim were to be convinced that Revelation does speak of 1st Century Rome, that would confirm the very raison d’etre of this website.
I believe the correct response to the OP’s claims is:

Ha-ha!

Darn. I was really looking forward to him keeping his promise. Or at least see how he would weasle out of his interpretation.
I’m disappointed Ephraim never returned. I was hoping he’d tell us how many were going to St. Ives.
I’ve often wondered why so many so-called christians are so vocal in their condemnation of sincere practitioners of other religions. After my husband died, my born-again sister phoned me at least once a week to tell me that he was burning in Hell for being a Buddhist, and that I would be joining him there. Even though I don’t believe in the Christian Hell, I had to ban her from my house, as it was very upsetting for me to have her sitting there saying such things [almost gloatingly] about my beloved.
If, after my death, she and Ephraim turn out to be right about religion, I would still rather be in Hell with my late husband than in heaven with bigoted, self-satisfied folks like them.
I apologise for replying to this thread without realising it had been bumped. That’ll teach me to look at the date of the OP!!
On the other hand, maybe the Devil made me do it!
My god-she actually called you up to taunt you like that while you were grieving? Holy shit, that’s so NOT Christian. At least, not as I was brought up!
ZombiesAteMyBrain I’m a hard-core Christian, and I’m with you. I can’t tell you how much it annoys me that some people who believe only Christians go to heaven seem to be working dead hard to drive people from Christianity. Does your sister think she’s going to scare you into conversion? First of all, I don’t think that’s what Christ had in mind. Second, I don’t know about you, but anyone who tries to intimidate me into doing something has pretty much eliminated any chance of my doing it.
I am sorry.

Just read 2 pages of this thread before i realised that i recognised some of the funny bits !
Must read op date

Still v funny though.

Guinastasia and Siege, thank you so much for your posts and support. I do know that all Christians are not so fanatical as my sister was - she was convinced that only the born-again could go to heaven … and in her opinion she was the only one in our family who qualified.
It was sad, though, when she died last Xmas [cancer]. She stepped up the phone calls then, as she felt she had a mission to change my religion before she died, and she also wrote to me, stating in the strongest possible terms that she didn’t want me to pray for her [as if a Buddhist prayer would do her any harm!]
I still feel bad that the last time I spoke to her I ended up in tears and hanging up on her [as I usually did] because she was just saying the same old thing about my late husband as she’d been saying for the previous 8 years since he died.
We hadn’t lived in the same house since my mother died when I was a child, and, although she was one of my closest blood relatives, I never felt I really knew her at all.
Hello friends,
Thought I would come back and answer my critics on a missed interpretation. I’m glad that enough of you remember the thread to call me to a response. If, as it appears, some of you want me to say that since I have been mistaken on one item it is all wrong, you will have a long wait.
Actually Arafat’s death makes the picture even more apparent to those who follow Bible prophecy. The word beast has a couple meanings. It could mean Arafat, who is the little horn and inspirational leader of the Palestinian people or the other countries that comprise the beast of Revelation 13. I chose it to mean Arafat himself and with a fifty percent chance came up holding the short straw. When the verses of Revelation say that the beast, false prophet and dragon are all in the same place at the same time it is referring to the other Arab countries. Isn’t it now much easier for all to see that Arafat will be worshipped? He is there hero in the struggle for a Palestinian state. Revelation 13 says that the second beast will have two horns (kings) like a lamb but speak as a dragon. Power will now be shared by Abu Mazen and the present Prime Minister. The second beast will cause them to worship Arafat and he will also make an Image to him. Already there is talk of the Palestinians making a museum to honor Arafat. The article said that they would be putting his belongings on display. Also I have just seen where the Al- Aksa Martyrs brigade have threatened any official with death by hanging if they choose any compromise with Israel concerning land , Jerusalem and the right of return. This is the legacy of Arafat that speaks and all who do not worship it will be killed. The second beast will also cause them to receive a mark in there right hand or their foreheads. The important thing to remember here is that the mark can be one of three things, a literal mark, the name of the beast (Yasser Arafat) or the number of his name. This mark will allow people to buy and sell and show the individual’s loyalty to the Palestinian cause. This situation is preparing the ground for Satan’s arrival. He will be cast out of heaven very soon and get what he has always wanted. To be worshipped instead of Jesus…The Watchman of Ephraim
P.S. it sounds to me like the gloating has already started.
So you were wrong… but that doesn’t change anything?
:dubious:
So how many “missed interpretations” will you need to rack up to throw this baby out with the bathwater?
Spooky…he paid!
Spookier… somebody issued him a credit card!

I’d say your chances were slightly less than fifty, hmm?
So, If I understand correctly, Arafat still isn’t completely dead according to ** Ephraim **. I can’t blame him for being confused on this issue.

Gosh, you do surprise me.
He’s Pining for the fjords. (Someone had to say it.)
Seriously, what we have here is an example of cognitive dissonance caused by disconfirmation of a strongly held belief. This happens alot with cults. Say the leader of a cult says the world will end on april 12, 2004. People gather on the mountain-top on April 11, and on April 13, they notice the world is still going on. You would expect them to sheepishly realize their mistake and try to get on with their lives. Perhaps they would also become angry at the cult that had misled them. In fact, disconfirmation often has the paradoxical effect of strengthening cult beliefs. People are so tied to the cult or their belief system that they will re-interpret any data so they can continue to believe, even data so powerful as the world’s continued existence. Compared to this Ephraim’s re-working of his beliefs is small potatos.
Spot on, Larry: those sites are beautifully appropriate here. I would like to hear ephraim’s consideration of them (although, of course, those very pages predict that he will dismiss them entirely. I wonder whether they’ll be more accurate in their predictions than he is?).
Oh, and ephraim, I said I would try and avoid gloating. Nevertheless, you’ve really put your foot in it here, and others will not handle you with such kid gloves.
It would be very brave of you to confront your cognitive dissonance, perhaps eventually letting go of your Apocalyptic worldview altogether. But unless you show such willing to honestly and rigorously explore this “prophecy”, do not be at all surprised if this thread is referenced any time people feel like questioning your credibility, rationality or even psychological stability.
