SDMBroads

(Not a typo)

Too early for bad puns, Burp.

Mr.Wrekker came thru to pick up something or the other.
Naturally he wanted a sammich. I fixed him up a bologna one.
He sat down at the island to eat it.
I hung around to see if he had anymore of his lecture series worked up. (I sorta ran away yesterday and got everyone worried).
Nothing.
So I inquired as to how the peach cobblers were.
Nothing.
I waited 3 beats…and said: “my crust coulda been flakier”
He stopped chewing. Swallowed.
Oops!
Exact words:
“That crust was just fine”
I saw a little twinkle in his eyes.
He got up and gathered his stuff up and headed out.
He turned around on the deck and said: “The guys want a chocolate cake, if you feel like it”
Hmmm? Now I have a twinkle…

I misread your post and thought you said you had a TWINKIE.

So, bake a chocolate cake with Twinkies inside!. I’m sure you can make it an imPEACHable lesson!

I need to make a grocery list. (;))

Longhair75’s family chocolate cake recipe:

2 ½ cups flour
2 cups sugar
½ cup hershey’s cocoa
2 rounded teaspoons baking soda
1 cup soured milk (add a teaspoon of white vinegar to whole milk and stir. Do not use 1% or 2%. Trust me)
1 cup vegetable oil (Canola oil works well)
½ teaspoon real vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup hot water (add this last)

Combine all dry ingredients, then add the liquid ingredients. Pour into a 9x13 floured baking dish and bake in a pre heated 350 degree oven until a toothpick comes out dry, approximately 45 minutes.

Sounds tasty.

…and I approve this message.
paid for by the committee to … do something that hasn’t been decided yet. And no the white spaces are not for loading and unloading only! Did you even read the script or are you just making it up as you go? Whaddaya mean the mic is still hot? I gave you the cut signal ten sec

Too late for the edit, buuuut on second thought, Broads may not be such a good idea in cunjuction with SDMB. There are some phrases that pop up round here now and then that miight just have some…unsavory, shall we say, connotations. So what else ya got?

Aaacckkl! You so funny (:))

I made the chocolate cake. I put my extra special choco/peanut butter icing on it. Usually I throw a canned icing on anything I cook for the camp. They are not gourmets. They don’t know the difference. This cake with blow their socks off. Son-of-a-wrek came got it. He said everyone was pretty amused by my cobblers. He asked what did I do to the cake. “Nothing, nothing at all” sez, I.
It’s true. But they don’t know that (;))

My chocolate cake was enjoyed and completely eaten.
I’ve never really cared what this bunch of goofy rednecks liked or not. I just made the stuff and sent it down.
For some reason I care, this year. Hmmm? Odd.
So I need an idea or two. I need desserts that are easily packed and travel well. Nothing deep fried. (I ain’t got that much energy.)
Things that can be doubled easily. Extra points if it doesn’t need fridging.

Pecan pie. Sweet potato pie.

I love them both and they’re easy to make with store bought pie crusts.

We usually keep left over Sweet potato pie in the fridge. I’m not sure it’s necessary if eaten within a day or two.

Pecan pie does fine on the counter top.

Bread pudding with lemon sauce.
Easy to double.
I’ll eat any leftovers you have.

Brownies. Any bar cookie.

I wouldn’t put the effort into making individual cookies. The denizens most likely would eat them four and five at a time, like potato chips.

Muffins would work (no icing, YAY!), and I’d recommend not using cupcake papers. Cuts down on litter.

I’m a BIIIIIG fan of cake mix. Oh, and I buy those “half steam table” foil pans at Sam’s Club. Cake mix, brownies, cinnamon rolls all fit perfectly in them. (casseroles, too…and meat loaf, and…)
Good luck!

Okay, I know this isn’t the intended takeaway, but…your cobblers have crust? In my world, cobbler has a drop biscuit-y kind of non-solid topping.

A lot of cobblers have a top crust but no bottom crust.

And that’s an im-PEACH-ment that everyone can agree on. At least everyone with a sense of humor.

Banana pudding makes any Southerners heart beat a little faster.

Easy to make.

We take it to church potlucks and always bring back a empty dish.
