Becks bad bad bad observations of the Laffolympics. (err...the Tokyo Olympics 2020, see I knew it was '20, I pay attention to the fine details in these matters)

  1. Ok, straight up Synchronized Artistic swimming is just creeeeeee-ppy. I’m sorry. Couldn’t watch it.

  2. I liked the horse dancing(dressage). I particularly like the horsies cool ear hats.

  3. Am I’m crazy or isn’t skateboarding and BMX like kids games or something?
    What’s next, 'Hunting Pokemon"?
    We should have junior Olympics.
Anyway we have enough biking events.
If you’re peddling a dirt bike it’s 'cause your motorized dirtbike is broke down.I stole that from another Doper.

  4. Come on, now. WTF? Race walking? Nope Nope Nope.
    I’d rather watch bowling.

  5. Why isn’t bowling an Olympic sport? I give you ‘curling’ as a precedent.

  6. Do you have to be ugly to lift weights!? Requirement, maybe!?
“Yeah, girl you ugly go over and pick up that small car, please, wanna be an Olympian, now?”

  7. I get it, the beach volleyball women have nice toned, tanned bodies. Do we have to see so much of it? Get them girls some regular shorts.
I feel like a man pulled the trigger on those bikinis.

  8. Ok. This one is a little tickly, but the hair colors in the track and field athletes. At least they tried to match their clothes colors.

9.I saw fish jumping in the water while the long distance swimmers were in there. Why isn’t sport fishing an Olympic sport? I could see Mr.Wrekker doing that. He needs a gold medal.

  1. That hammer throw thingy in track and field. That ain’t no hammer. It’s a ball on a string. You can’t fool ol’beck.

Yeah, I’ve kinda watched too much TV, lately.

Was the ugly crack necessary?

Seriously, WTF?

Oh. Well, of course not.
But how else can I describe them?

I don’t mean to say they are bad people. I’m sure they’re very nice.

Maybe it’s more of their facial expressions and grimacing.

Then of course not everyone is beautiful, I know this. You know this.
It’s just that humanity can come in all shapes, looks and strangenesses.
I was making an observation. Of course it’s only my opinion.
You form your own.
I don’t mind.

Maybe mention expressions and not looks.

I’m watching Margaret Rutherford playing Miss Marple in TCM at this very moment.
She was a very successful actress and made scads of movies.
Alas, she is not attractive. She just wasn’t.

I still love everything she’s in.

I’m sure if she were alive she wouldn’t give two cents to know my opinion of her looks.

If women want people to treat them equally in this world you have to take the bad as well as the good.

Opinions are not always pleasant.

While working from home, with the Olympics on during the day here, I have had them on TV with the sound off nearly all the time. I have found most of it pretty tedious with the notable exception of the non-sports. The BMX aerials were great and the kids skateboarding was the most enjoyable thing I have seen in big time sport for a long, long time. It was like watching real amateur sportsmen and women from back in the mists of time. Seeing all the young competitors rush over to embrace the person, from another country, that had just performed some outstanding routine that was going to beat them, cheered me up.

Women have been judged solely on their looks, despite their accomplishments, for far too long.

So true.

That very young, 14yo I think, Chinese platform diver was very impressive.
I couldn’t believe how great she was.
So young yet so talented.

Great post. Made me smile

No one who is healthy and confident is truly ugly. Some of the female weightlifters are genuinely attractive, and not just “for a weightlifter”. So they don’t look like the women on the bikini team, er, beach volleyball team. They’re still a far cry from “ugly”.

Mod chiming in to agree with the peanut gallery. We are trying to move the board away from judging woman on their looks all the time. Please try to avoid this type of comment.

I see what you did there.

There’s a superficial similarity between curling and bowling, and I can see why you compare them, but curling has levels of strategy and teamwork that bowling really doesn’t.

Sorry, @puzzlegal

I’m very sorry to those I’ve offended. I certainly didn’t set out to do that.
I meant it as purely an silly observation.

I can’t win for losing here. The bowling/ curling observation I made was simply to say they are both slow paced not that the sports are equal in any other way. Sorry, again.

Your friendly neighborhood Wrek…
Beck

Beck, you are a class act.

Now kick back and enjoy Bayliss or the meezers while watching the Olympics and sipping your favorite adult beverage. You’ve earned it.

A dismissive “FEH, Canadian!”

um … er … I enjoyed the movie.

I didn’t mean to sound too harsh, but there is more to curling than is seen at first glance.

I’m sure bowling has its fans, too, and takes years of practice to be great at it, but I wouldn’t put it in the Olympics.

You’re fine with me @Robot_Arm.

As with the other issue I was making silly observations.
I certainly never mean to hurt anyone’s feelings.

I respect all Olympians. They have talents and strengths I can’t even pretend to understand.
