I wake around 6:15
Leave around 6:25
At the desk at 7:00.
That’s 45 minutes with a 35 minute commute.
I usually shower the night before, so when I get up in the morning, I brush my teeth, grab my lunch and GO. I don’t like wasted time. All time before work that isn’t actively spent
6:00 - alarm goes off
6:12 - showered, brushed teeth, dressed, head downstairs. Ms. D is generally already up, walked the dog and made coffee, and the dog brought in the paper.
I make my lunch, a couple bagels for the train, drink some coffee, and skim the comics and a couple of other sections of the paper.
6:45 - out the door, walk 10 minutes to train.
6:59 train to Chicago, gets in at 7:35.
Another 10 minute walk on that end.
7:45 - sign in at work.
I can hit the snooze alarm until 8:15 and still be walking in the door when they make the opening announcement at 9. (Of course, the rule is I’m supposed to be in place at 9, but, you know.) I snooze as long as possible, bolt out of bed, throw my wrinkled clothes in the dryer, kick the dog’s furry butt out the door, take a shower, get dressed, and leave the house with breakfast in hand (or planned for break). I can get to work in 15 minutes on a regular workday if there’s no construction - 7 on a Sunday.
I’m up at 6:45, clothes chosen and out of the shower by 7. If husband isn’t up by 7:05, I wake him up. Prettify myself until about 7:25, take the dog out, make sure everyone has enough food/water to last until I get home for lunch. (Og forbid one of our pets should happen to see the bottom of the food bowl!) I leave for work at around 7:30 or shortly thereafter, and punch in around 7:35-7:40 depending on “traffic,” which in my world means if I have to wait for a couple of cars while trying to cross the highway. Sometimes I’m a little later if I decide to gasp iron something, and might not get there until 7:42 or so. On Wednesdays (deadline day) there’s no screwing around and I’m up at 6:30 and punched in by 7:20.
The average time appears to be right around 1.5 hours.
For those that work from home and your time from bed to desk is 5 minutes, do you really not shower or do other things in the morning before you start work?
Sometimes I’ll pour a bowl of cereal while the dog is eating, and take it back to my desk. Other times I check email and respond to email first then get my cereal.
I work all day in my jammies, then after work I will go to karate or work in the yard, so I get dressed after work. When I’m done with doing whatever made me sweaty for the day, THEN I shower.
But yeah…it really is wake-pee-dog-desk here. No foolin’ around inbetween
A couple of times I’ve done it in 15-20 minutes because I’ve overslept but normally it’s about 60-90 minutes - it helps that I can drive to my workplace in about 7 minutes, although it takes another 10 minutes to walk from the gate to my desk (obviously if I can get a lift from the gate to my office it’s faster, which is how I’ve managed to get there in 15-20 minutes).
I shower and dress quite quickly, but I need a lot of wake-up time. With a 7am start and a 5:30am alarm, I still don’t really start to wake up properly until at least 10am (and quite frankly, never wake properly until sometime in the evening, after 7pm. I’m a night person, not a day person).
Alarm clock goes off at 5:30; wife gets first shower. At 6:00, I get my shower and then get dressed. Once done, I drive to work listening for accidents I might have to re-route around.
I’m always at work by 8, which gives me time for a styrofoam cup of cereal and ‘skim-plus’ milk before my official start time.
If I’m taking a full shower, I wake up at 6.38 for work at 8. If I’m taking a mini-shower (meaning I’m not washing my hair because I did it last night) it’s 7.23.
My clock is 8 minutes fast, so it looks like I’m up at 6.45 or 7.15. As much as I hate waking up in the morning, I enjoy being able to take my time getting ready.
