Beef Jerky

What’s with beef jerky, anyway?

Try it, you might like it.

mmm beef jerky… I know what I’m buying with my first paycheck!

Mmmmmmm, beef jerky.

It’s Jethroe Bodine’s stage name.
I have no idea why I remember that.

I love beef jerky. I try not to think about the fact that I’m actually eating raw meat, though. That’s probably why I use plenty of garlic when I make it.

Mmmmm…Beef jerky and grapefruit…

Skelji, sorry duckie but beef jerky is not raw meat.

Beef jerky is thinly sliced beef that is marinated to a flavour of choice then smoked. I’ve also been told it is similar to the South African delicacy of biltong

My marinade consists of soy sauce, tobasco, Worcestershire sauce, honey and all sorts of herbs and spices - almost a spicy terriyaki. It is then smoked over apple or mesquite chips for 24-36 hours.

It does take some getting used to as it can be very tough and chewy if not done properly (store bought is always tougher).

My husband tried some once (store bought). He took one tiny nibble then immediately spit it out the truck window, looked at me in horror and cried “You mean Americans eat dog chews???”

Gotta love him

I love beef jerky.

Here in Oz they don’t know how to make beef jerky. I recently went to the States, and bought a large packet of beef jerky from the gas station every day. I became obsessed with it.

Back to Oz, and the only beef jerky I can find is this horrible, hard stringy stuff that makes your jaw hurt.

I love the stuff I can get in the States.

Beef Jerky on the Web

There’s lots of places on the internet you can order American beef jerky, Captain Blunty. Do a Google search on beef jerky and you can have some delivered right to your door!

Sometimes I think that in 5 or 10 years, I’ll get to the point where I never leave the house. I’ll work from home, shop from home and never set foot outside.

Remind me never to be in a confined space with Sper.

Don’t worry, Inky. I rarely go anywhere, so its unlikely that would happen. :stuck_out_tongue:
