Totally mundane and pointless to probably 90% of the SD, but I haven’t visited in a while and had some time today to check in. Saw a lot of names I recognize. Read with great sadness of those who have passed.
A quick update on me and mine for anybody who is interested:
Back in January of 2009 I very abruptly lost my job. This was a huge blow to me because my job was my identity for the most part. I was great at it and I’m ashamed to say it was probably my number one priority a lot of times.
I was able to stay home with the newest Minion (Yes…we have a 3rd one!) for 6 months and watch him turn into a little person. He’s 14 months old now.
I recently accepted a new job after blowing through our savings and 401 (k)s at a lower salary but lower expectations and responsibilities. I work from 7-3 so the hours are awesome.
But, more importantly, I’ve discovered my job isn’t what defines me.
As many of you know I’ve always been involved with an inner city literacy program in Birmingham. Many, many of you have supported my work through donations and gifts of books and other items. You’ve written to the kids and let them know someone out there took an interest in them. Thank you always for that.
The program I was associated with has gone through some changes and I am no longer involved as of right now. Maybe one day in the future.
I have started working with a recovery program for adults dealing with alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, painful divorces, anger, control, sexual abuse and a whole host of other issues.
I specifically work with a women’s group and am blessed beyond measure for the women that have dropped into my life through this program. They teach me more than I ever teach them.
Our oldest minion turns 13 in November. The minion that used to be known as The Tiny Minion is now 7 years old. Time flies.
Sauron is doing well and continues to be the greatest husband on the planet.
I think that’s it. Just wanted to say hi and hope everyone is well.
