Beer drinkers, What is the best beer in the world?

Nah, don’t do that. That would leave the thread to the pedants and assholes (Yea! I’m over-qualified!)

The beer you like is the beer you like. Just like women.

Great suggestion

Haha! Nice comparison!

Hey, I find myself drinking Walgreen’s Big Flats these days quite a lot because the wife prefers the American light lagers and it’s cheap ($3.33/6 pack. Used to be $2.99 up to a month or two ago.) The way I described it before: “Not quite Old Style or Schiltz in terms of flavor, but better than Hamm’s, Blatz, and Busch. Yeah, I know that’s very narrow niche I’m describing there. But trust me. I’m right.”

I was always enamored of Newcastle Brown Ale, but in the past year or so my go to brew has been Bass Ale. Last week, on a whim, I picked up a six-pack of Long Trail IPA that was effing delicious.

Then there’s the Shipyard’s seasonal brews (Pumpkinhead in the fall, Applehead in the spring) that I enjoy a lot, but I feel a bit non-beer-snobby mentioning them for some reason. My other beer-snob friends look at me like I’m drinking Kool-Aid when I whip out a bottle of either.

My bitch (don’t start!) is that they keep discontinuing or stop importing my favorite beers. Shipyard used to put out a wonderful IPA named after Joshua Chamberlain. Not any more. Bishops Neame used to export Bishop’s Finger Kentish Ale to the colonies. Not any more. Bevmo started carrying the reformulated Schlitz in California. Not any more. If Sierra Nevada ever stops making their pale ale in favor of Torpedo (which is shit) I’ll be heading to the clock tower with a rifle.

Oooh… had I known it was available in the US at all, I’d have already hurt someone to try and prevent its departure from our shores.

I’m a big fan of English ales, and the variety we get here is fairly pitiful when you get right down to it, and I’m annoyed that it seems like my only options are Boddington’s, Fuller’s ESB, Old Speckled Hen, Wychwood Hobgoblin and Wells Bombardier. None of them are bad, but that’s not much variety.

I will pick two, because they represent completely different end of the spectrum ( realize that in fact beer exists along many dimesions):

On the IPA/hop emphasis side I am going withPliny the Elder from Russian River. It may actually be a bit cliche to say it is a favorite of a beer snob such as myself, but it is truly my favorite on the IPA side.

On the stout/malt side I am going with Old Rasputin from North Coast Brewery. Although I did try the Goose Island Bourbon County and thoroughly enjoyed, but have only had the one small (3 oz.) tasting, so it remains off to the side in my memory.

I’ve just heard that Shipyard is coming out with a summer seasonal brew to compliment their Pumpkinhead and Applehead: Melonhead … with a slight hint of watermelon. Color me skeptical … but I’ll still probably buy a case.

I hope they have better luck with that than I did. Watermelon is such a subtle flavor that you really have to dump the stuff in there to notice it at all. Very fine line between “not enough watermelon” and “Ye gods!”

21st Amendment makes “Hell or High Water Watermelon Wheat” which is awful, in my opinion, but my buddy loves it.

I had a Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat on Friday…then went home and got my empty growler for a fill up.

Slight nit-pick, it’s Shepherd Neame. Believed to be the oldest continuous brewer in the country, from 1698.

It was pre-coffee, so I’m excused. :stuck_out_tongue:

A bump just to let everyone know that Sierra Nevada Hoptimum v2013 is now on the shelves. Life is short, if you haven’t tried this, ask yourself: “Why not? After all, it’s on the shelves, and I’m only going to live once.”

Personally I like Michelob Ultra as it’s low in carbs. Most beers that taste like the beer I’m used to are good, therefore Coors, Bud, Miller, Oly, etc. are all on a par. I’m not particular…guess I should have said OP’s.

Two weeks ago, our local brewery was serving a batch of their doublebock which was aged in rye whiskey barrels. Awesome, and there were signs for the beertenders “This is not expected to last out the weekend. No .5 liter glasses, only .4 liter. No growlers, no matter who asks.”
