So what I need to know is, Which beer do you normally consume, and which if any causes headaches (as opposed to just the groggy/dreary hangover) for you?
For me:
I usually drink Bud Light, Miller Lite nearly killed me last weekend.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
I’ve been drinking Tabernash Weiss straight from the Brewery. Best beer in the world, folks. Delicious and nutritious, no headaches or other ill-effects.
How much light beer does it take to get drunk, let alone hung over? I tried once, couldn’t even get a buzz.
Anyways, I usually drink Molson Canadian and rarely get hung over. I find that the headaches/hangover are usually independent of the brand of beer. Rather, they are dependent on how much water I drink before, after, and during a party.
Now that I think about it, the beer that gave me a headache nearly every time was called Stroh’s. We drank it because it was cheap, and always regretted it the next morning.
When I drink more than one (which is the most frequent case), I drink Miller Lite and it never gives me a hangover, no matter how much I consume (which is typically 4-6 and hasn’t exceeded 10 for a couple of months). Ditto for Miller Genuine Draft Light–for them nights when I’m drinking a lot of something fancy–and Lone Star Light.
As pleasant as those beers are to me, an excess of Lone Star not only hangs me over, but gives me… er, gastrointestinal unpleasantries the next day. Shiner Bock (as featured in the final scene of last week’s X-Files!) in excess hangs me over worst of all.
Other stuff that I like is too expensive to frequently drink in copious amounts, so although I’ve got some data, it’s not statistically meaningful enough for your survey.
I like to drink Coors Light or Corona with lime. I usually don’t get a hangover when I’m drinking beer because I’ll only have 4-5. If I’m drinking vodka & 7… look out! I’ll drink about 8 of those and have a few shots and I’m toast… it’s hell to pay the next morning too!
I drink one kind of beer, and one kind of beer only - COLD beer. No headaches or hangovers or other effects. It takes a few whiskey chasers to give me a headache.
All you Silicon Vals, take note: since moving to the San Jose area, I’ve gotten hooked on a brewery local to Morgan Hill. It’s called “El Toro.” They make an amber ale (“Poppy Jasper”) that is the best I ever chugged, bar none. Their wheat is excellent, too. Nice little no-frills friendly brewery among farmlands. I’ve never had a headache from any of their beers that a couple of aspirin didn’t dispel quickly. Mainstream grocery store beer – it makes my head throb just to think of it.
All the preceding light beer posts bring to mind an old joke:
Why is light beer like making love in a canoe?
Because it’s fucking close to water.
