I prefer Miller Genuine Draft (probably habit more than anything else). I get wicked headaches whenever I drink dark beer, but I seem to be ok as long as it’s mostly yellow. I’m going out now to play cards and drink beer; thank God I’m not designated driver tonight. If anything interesting happens, I’ll report, thereby moving me ever closer to the magical 100 posts.
It’s not really beer, but malt liquor gives me a killer headache, during and after I drink it. Of course, I don’t touch the stuff now, but during college…
I drink mostly German beers, and sometimes I do get headaches, it doesn’t matter which kind. It seems to be related to dehydration, so I try and alternate alchohol and plain water.
Almost anything alcoholic gives me a hangover, so I’m not much of a drinker. Pot gives me a hangover too, so does cold medicine. I was not meant for chemical substances!
The ‘English’ beers youget are probably brewed in the good ol US of A so they do not represent our stuff, it’s a fairly routine practice.Mind you if they were brewed here and exported then the additives to make it survive transport would be as likely to cause a headache as the alchohol.
Irish Guinness is totally differant to the stuff that is sold in the UK and elsewhere. It really is a special drink and it is worth giong there just for that - oh and the fishing too.
Several years ago Tuborg brewers were fined by the European commission for incuding additives that were meant to cause headaches the day after. They got hit for several millions. Why would they do it deliberately you might ask ?
Well market research had indicated to them that many young men equated strong beer with bad hangovers so they simply supplied the market and the advertising promoted the strength of it. Incidently the stuff had no more alchohol than any of the other beers available but it did cost more.
This must sound like a U/L but it ain’t, the fine was £4mill the largest inflicted by the governing bodies to that date.
The best beer for no hangovers and supreme inebriation to me is the German stuff. Their brewing laws are incredibly strict andto comply with their standards the must be no additives at all.
Yuengling Lager is delicious. I love that stuff, had it all throughout high school and never got a headache, just a pleasant buzz.
Coors Light is evil. I drink four glasses of that shit and I have a headache. I never actually get hungover, even though I have on occasion shocked the hell out of bystanders with my alcohol capacity. Record: 3 mindzippers, 6 wine coolers, 3 red dogs, about 8-10 jello shooters, and five shots if tequila. Fine the next day!
Ahh, the spoils of youth!
But Coors…eh. I’d rather drink piss (tastes the same!)
Usually drink: Labatt Blue or Budweiser
When feel like splurging: Sam Adams
When feel like splurging more: Guiness or a dark brew or stout from one of our local microbreweries.
I must join the chorus saying Miller Lite gives me a headache. I think we’re on to some conspiracy here …
And when I was a professional drunk years ago in my lead-singer, rock-and-roll bar band days, I would never seem to get hangovers on nights I drank tequila, Jagermeister, Slow Comfortable Screws or Jim Beam, but would on nights I had just a few beers. Go figure.
I have really bad allergies and for some reason any beer with preservatives in it triggers a nasty sinus headache! No matter if it is a single beer or 12. Not a hangover, a sinus headache. Microbrews, foreign beers and a few domestics don’t have preservatives and I can drink them like a fish with no ill side-effects.
However, if I drink enough draft beer, foreign or domestic, I’ll wish I could separate my head from the rest of my body by next morning.
For the record, I like Icehouse, Dos Equis - green and brown label, Black & Tans and Guinness.
Years ago I saw some sailors in town drinking bloody beers… Tomato juice added to the beer. To my surprise, it was very good. My pick for now would be Bud Light.
Please send me a case of that beer. Jasper is my first name IRL!!
Anyway… lagers and pilsners never give me hangovers or headaches, unless consumed in ridiculous numbers - I have been known to down about 35 lagers in one evening, but that was back when I was young and wild (read: in college)
One of my great hobbies is Belgian special beers. Some of these babies will have over 10% alcohol, and believe me, drinking 6 or 7 of those can give you a SEVERE hangover.
Whiskey doesn’t give me a hangover either. Red wine will, when I drink over a bottle a night. And this is a bad thing, since I’m drinking red wine during weeknights now - I’m trying to lose some weight, and beer is (only in that respect!) a bad thing…
Never had a hangover off of beer though, I got one once off of a lot of rum though.
Haven’t had once since, though I sometimes wonder why not, I certainly drink enough.
Milwaukee’s Best Ice Beer if you want a real skull-popping headache. Also the IPA from the Copper Canyon Brewpub in Southfield, Mich. is pretty nasty the next morning if you drink more than 3 but sure tastes good while watching a Redwings hockey game on the tube.
