Beer Drinking Poll (increase your post count!)

Shiner Bock, baby. Goes down smooth and comes back up even smoother.

Guinness, unless I am at a reggae concert, then I’ll have a red stripe. I have never had a hangover or a headache.

I’ll drink most anything.
Bud is my favorite.
Back in the old days I found that most beer gave me an upset stomach the next day. Also I had to work inside with a lot of people and sooner or later the upset became gas.
Bud did not affect me that way but it did give me a headache.
I don’t drink that much any more so I’ll drink anything thats available.

Cascade Pale Ale, Melbourne Bitter, Guinness. If you drink more than about ten, you get hungover.

Not a fan of American beer either, CheifWahoo, though I am a Yank. Thus far, no one’s mentioned Heineken. I’ve indulged many times and have only gotten a headache on one occasion. I’m willing to forgive my baby for just one headache.

Pug, better than El Toro is GIlroy’s Coast Range brewery(My home town :)). ALthough a friend of mine was at El Toro the other day and said they’re turning out some good beers now.

In the San Jose area, there are even BETTER breweries! Try Faultline(Great stout, terrible service!), Stoddard’s(great beer/meal combo), Tied house is always good, and one of my fav. hangouts(my cousin is a waitress there and my firend is the manager), is Rock Bottom in Campbell.

Coldy sez:

I used to love belgian cream beers!

Mickeys’ll kill a horse on the come-down, Missippi mud(or maybe the elephant brew), gave me the rockinest headache ever one fine night…

I try to stick to Guinness, tetley’s or any of the more english ales/stouts. German beer curdles my gut…

I’ve been in a self-imposed alcohol exile now for 1 year, 5 months and 10 days, yet Beck’s always did my body the least harm. I always wanted to believe it had to do with the purity of German beers, but St. Pauli Girl hurt me noticeably more. Heineken and Grolsch never hurt much either.

It was at a rather late stage in my drinking career that I discovered my allergy to beer. I never nailed it down to specific components like yeasts or grains or preservatives, but most hangovers with beer were sinus pressure related.

I used to drink 10-12 Beck’s at a time and would still feel rather fine the next day, just a little slow getting about. And if nobody else was around to laugh at me, sometimes a 12 pack of Corona instead. Corona hangovers were barely noticeable, but the beer is weaker too. I could always finish all 12 and still be wide awake and wanting more.

Here in Central Wisconsin we refer to this as a Polish Bloody Mary! Never actually tried it myself, but as long as you like tomato juice I’m sure it’s ok. (We get a lot of people here who use tomato juice as a chaser for Jose Cuervo as well).

Sorry to hijack my own thread, but that reminds me of a joke: Why doesn’t Hitler drink tequila? It makes him mean! (Sorry, couldn’t help myself).

I’ll post some results to this poll later both here and on the GQ thread. Thanks for your help. (Now why wasn’t this question on my census form??)

The only thing that’s ever given me a headache are large quantities of tequila or Everclear.

As far as what I drink, when I do drink beer, it’s going to be Beck’s, Guinness, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, or Sam Adams’ Cherry Wheat.

Ok if I change my mind?

Definitly anything by The Wild Onion Brewing Co (stroke)

ps The other winner

Okay, these are VERY rough (hey, gimme a break, I’m trying to do this and pretend to be working at the same time  )

A good vote means no headache, a bad vote means headache (the numbers are from this poll, infor from the thread over on GQ and an e-mail poll of some friends).

BUD LIGHT – 12 good votes, 1 bad
MILLER LITE – 3 good votes, 9 bad
PABST – 2 bad
STROHS – 2 bad
COORS LIGHT – 2 good, 3 bad
MILLER – 2 good, 1 bad
BUD – 3 bad, 1 good
ICEHOUSE – 2 bad, 1 good
MOLSON – 3 good
CORONA – 1 good, 1 bad
GUINESS – 6 good
OTHER – 8 good, 4 bad

As my OP in GQ was about Miller Lite causing headaches while Bud Light doesn’t, I think these numbers show the possibility that it’s not just me. Miller Lite received by the far the most “bad” votes. Now, to figure out why!! (Back to GQ, I guess).

Guiness or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale if I want something good. Corona, Dos Equis and Pacifico most of the time. None give me a hangover. Like others, some form of hard alcohol must be involved like Gin or ta-kill-ya(yech!)

Normally drink Southpaw (Yeah, it’s cheap). I really like the dry/double hopped taste. Best I’ve ever had though was Chimay(sp). It’s made by Belgian Monks. Nice and dry, almost like a decent dry red.

Caribe, a lager brewed in Trinidad, is my beer of choice. Very smooth, very refreshing, not “beery” at all. Never had a headache from it and it can’t be beat for drinking when sitting on the deck after a long day, enjoying the sun, remembering the wonderful days spent in Anguilla.

You should all come to Ireland and drink Guinness . No hangover really to talk about .

I don’t drink lager but I was in Malaysia at the beginning of the year and drank “Tiger” beer . It is by far the best lager I ever tasted . I found out you can buy it here as well ( imported ) , so at home I drink Tiger but out it’s always Guinness .

I was just at the Tied House today at noon. I went to the Farmers Market on opening day, which is now on San Pedro Square. It was hotter than the hinges of Hell out there and I sure wanted to pop in to the Tied House for a cold one, but I had to go back to work. I’ll try that Gilroy brew – I’ve seen it on tap at the Claddagh, and I’ve heard it’s good. Do they have a tasting room or anything?

Never had a headache/hangover related to type of beer, only amount. Used to drink cheap beer, generally Busch, in earlier years sank as low as Stroh’s (do they still have 15 and 30 packs?), and even Meister Brau until I made a connection between it an the fumes. Would occasionally splurge on Bud. Wife recently assured me I could afford to buy decent beer. Now generally Sam Adams, Killian’s Red, Leinie’s, or Foster’s (the little lady’s fave).

I hazily recall days when I would stick to gin (Tanq), cause instead of a hangover, I’d wake up still drunk.

First beer bought the first day of college was a case of Falstaff returnables. GOD was that some awful horse piss!

I wouldn’t know. I’d say Stroh’s is the worst tasting beer I’ve ever had. And believe me, when you’ve had brands like Rhinelander, Jacob Best, and Black Label you’re really scrapping. I have no idea about it’s “headache factor” though because there’s no way I could ever drink enough of that stuff to suffer any hangover.

Anyway, we’re off to field test the theory that Miller Lite is evil and Bud Light is good-I get to drink the Bud Light :D.
(Poor old Sledman has to drink Miller :stuck_out_tongue: ). Results tomorrow.
