Beer (IPA) reccomendations

Tried the Stone Ale and Anchor Liberty Ale last evening based on suggestions here. Both very good!

Having seen the name in this thread I’ve bought some from my local friendly Tescos, along with some Sierra Nevada.

They are chilling as we speak, lets hope they travel well.
I apologise in advance for supporting the big brewery juggernauts but perhaps by buying brands such as these we can exert a degree of consumer pressure?

I came in to recommend the Boulevard IPAs. The Single-Wide IPA is very good and affordable. The Double-Wide is excellent, but pricier, but it gets bonus points for being served in a 750ml long neck wine bottle with champagne-style cork (it’s bottle conditioned). Unfortunately for the OP, Boulevard doesn’t ship to the east coast (or western PA). Feel free to check here.

I was going to correct blondebear that it was Single-Wide (which was what I was going to recommend), not Double-Wide, but didn’t realize that they actually had a Double-Wide IPA. Thanks for the tip, Munch - I’ll have to check that out.

I drink Speak Easy’s Big Daddy IPA sometimes.

All of their Smokestack Series beers come highly recommended - I haven’t had a bad one yet. The best of the bunch, though, is easily Tank 7.

Agree. I’ve had it from a cask as well. Didn’t last long, though.

Bridgeport Hop Czar (Imperial/Double IPA) is the shizz…

So is Victory’s Hop Devil and Anchor’s Humming Ale, although I’m not sure either is officially an IPA.

Victory also has Hop Wallop, which is a double IPA - but frankly I like the Hop Devil better. I’ve found Victory to be very consistently good.

I’ll second most of the recommendations here, excepting Bridgeport, Goose Island, and Schlafly–the first two just don’t agree with my palate or I’ve gotten some skunked packs, and I’ll not contribute any money the Schlafly family for the third.

I may have missed them, but I also love Breckenridge 471, Mycenary, and St Lupulin. The latter two are from Odell, who along with Left Hand has never made a beer I didn’t like.

Mostly I want to echo what DCnDC said about Longhammer. It’s not OMG nummy! like many that have been suggested, but it’s just a solid all-around beer. It’s my “yellow beer” if you like, the go-to that’s always in the fridge. And at ~$14-$15 per 12, it’s quite affordable.

While I appreciate the sentiment, buying Schlafly beer in no way contributes money to the Schlafly family. Tom Schlafly is indeed Phyllis’s nephew (by marriage), but she has nothing to do with the brewery, and does not benefit from it in any way. Tom is almost entirely apolitical (at least publicly) and is actually a registered Democrat.

As far as I know, all the crazy Schlaflys are Phyllis’s sons.

Essentially, you’re not buying a certain brand of beer because the co-founder’s uncle married a crazy lady.

Ignorance fought, and I thank you.

No problem. I admit to feeling a little uneasy when I made the connection between the two. Not enough to stop drinking the beer, mind you (because, hey, beer), but it certainly eased my mind when I realized that Phyllis and the beer were mostly unrelated.

Had this on tap at my nephew’s wedding 11 days ago…went down real tasty and easy, especially since it was an open bar.

I’m also a Stone IPA lover along with other beers that Stone makes.

When I was vacationing in Bend, Oregon, I really enjoyed Deschutes Brewery’s Inversion IPA…bought a couple cases of it to take home to enjoy for the rest of the summer.
