Try Bud Light Lime. It’s usually priced lower than Corona.
I don’t think that’s true. Bud light Lime is REALLY expensive where I live (and for what it is). Like, almost $12 a twelve pack. I assume Corona is close.
ETA: I don’t think it tastes like Corona either.
In Chicago? Bud Light Lime is usually $9.99 for a 12 pack. Corona, outside of Cinco De Mayo specials, is usually $12.99 a 12 pack and up.
Corona is almost always around $12.99-$13.99 for twelve. Bud Light Lime seems to be really variable, from $9.99-$12.99 for 12. I just checked Binny’s prices online (they’re a Chicago liquor store), and they have both at $12.99. I’m a bit surprised, as usually Bud Light Lime is closer to $9.99 or so as dalej42 says. I also checked Bevmo’s prices (a West Coast liquor store, checked the LA location online), and they were $9.99/12 Bud Light Lime and $13.99/12 Coronas.
(I also don’t think $12 for a 12 pack is really expensive. For what it is, it is slightly pricey, but any decent beer these days is going to be more than a buck a bottle, at least where I live. A 6-pack of craft beer is generally around $8.99-$9.99).
Gary Larson drew a cartoon where one cow in a pasture lifts its head and yells "This is grass! We’ve all been eating grass!!
The beer drinkers in the Western Hemisphere need to have a moment like this.
What are they drinking elsewhere that we can’t get here?
Yeah, I couldn’t figure out that comment, either. If your interpretation is correct, then nachtmusick’s comment hasn’t been true for about 20 or so years now. I’d argue that there’s no better place to be if you’re a beer lover than in the US right now.
The weird thing is, here in Milwaukee it’s easier for me to get some expensive obscure brew made on the other side of the planet than it is to get some cheapola beer like Stag or Olympia that’s brewed in southern Illinois.
I think I’m comparing apples to oranges. Now that I’ve thought about it, I’ve never bought anything but a six pack of Corona (not for me) and I almost always buy twelves of Bud Light Lime (again, not for myself)…so I think I was comparing a six pack to a twelve pack in my mind when I wrote that!
I still stand by my comment that Bud Light Lime is overpriced for what it is. There’s no reason why it should cost maybe only a fraction more than regular Bud Light. All it is is Bud Light with artificial lime juice. There’s nothing special about it, at all.
I agree (except that I think it’s real lime juice they use.) Why not just buy Bud Light and a lime? You’d do much better.
I’m not so sure about that. They say “100% natural lime flavor”. Nowhere do I see claims of actual juice being used.
i asked my friend Antonio what were some good mexican beers his response was “we just drink something from america, there isn’t any good mexican beers”
Ah ha! You’re right. I just Googled and saw somewhere it said “concentrated lime juice,” but if they themselves say “natural lime flavor,” then it can be anything that is technically “natural.”
Not sure it’s still available, but their used to be a beer called “Sol” that was a direct attempt to mimic Corona.
Your friend is an idiot.
Bohemia, Modelo Negro, Victoria, Dos Equis…all excellent Mexican lagers.
I agree. I like all Mexican beers to varying degrees. Back in 2009 we walked across the Rio Grande into Nuevo Progreso (rights past the Mexican army, I kid you not!) and had some Mexican Beer I’ve never seen in the U.S., and that was all good too!
Yep, Sol is still around. Had no idea it was supposed to be a Corona clone, but good to see that my suggestion of Sol being the closest to Corona apparently has some basis in fact.
The clear Sol bottle helps, of course. Skunked beer is skunked beer.
That’s much more diplomatic than saying “See post #15”…
While we’re on the topic, what other beer would be a reasonable substitute for Negra Modelo?
