No the Mom is still alive, that’s Catherine O’Hara.
In the original, the two characters played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are childless and die in a car accident, then have to navigate the afterlife. The new owners of their beloved house trash the place, so they decide to haunt them. Beetlejuice is a troublemaking ghost who has bad ideas and just makes everything a mess. The new owners were Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and their daughter Lydia played by Winona Ryder.
This time in the sequel movie, Mom, daughter (same cast), and granddaughter (played by Jenna Ortega) reawaken Beetlejuice and hijinks ensue.
Maybe they moved on to a different part of the afterlife? I remember a line, I think said by Geena Davis’s character, about how they were going to be stuck in the house for the next 30 years or 40 years. Maybe that time was up and they moved on to the next part of their journey in the afterlife.
I know it is but a tiny sliver of a silver lining, but according to Wikipedia his parents came to accept his sexual orientation after his attempted suicide.
I wouldn’t say she’s typecast but she certainly has a type she’s leaning into (and making a mint off of it). But maybe if they make a live action Elena of Avalor she can reprise her role of Princess Isabel.
Jenna Ortega played Wednesday Adams, a character previously played by Christina Ricci. Christina Ricci played Wynona Ryder’s sister in Mermaids. Wynona Ryder is playing Jenna Ortega’s mother in the new film. It’s all connected, people!
I read years ago, they wanted a sequel but Tim didn’t want to do one. So he came up with a ridiculous title, Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian, as a joke and the studio took him seriously. There’s even a script. Scripts – Table Reads
