Just…WHY?!
This has been a huge deal around here for four years. People popularly suspected the parents, but had no proof.
It was a really big deal when there were movements toward taking down the makeshift shrine to her. It was full of moldy teddy bears and rain streaked cards. I’m glad they put up a permanent structure, but the way people were going on and on about taking down the eyesore was getting quite annoying.
It’s one of those cases most people had decided would never be solved, but always remembered, so it’s quite a shock to see developments.

That is horrible. There are some questions here. Why was she left on the floor for two days rather than taken to a hospital? Was the mother abused by the guy who kicked the girl in the head perhaps? Too scared to do anything?
And why was it necessary to decapitate her after she was dead? I don’t understand this at all. There’s no good reason for it. Its just plain sick.
Decapitation was probably a crude attempt to disguise her identity.
An article I read said that they didn’t get help because they both had warrants out on them at the time. The mom has convictions for theft and forgery, and the guy for assault with a dangerous weapon and for possessing a sawed-off shotgun.
I don’t know about the rest.
crap on a stick…drive her to the ER and leave her sitting in a chair, at least she would have gotten seen…the asshat parents can run out of town and essentially abandon her to foster care, but she would be alive at least…I know I would rather do jail time than let a kid die.
This is the ultimate ct of selfishness.
If there isn’t a hell, God should create one for these kind of people.
Oh- I’m sure there is, maybe not the traditional Hell but a Hell nonetheless- this is one of those cases where my Hopes for Univeral Salvation stop hoping.
I think I remember seeing this case featured on Cold Case Files or one of those other forensic shows on A&E. At least they finally found her killers, poor thing.

Terrible, terrible case but you’re surely not implying that the State should decide who or who should not be a parent? That notion worries me on more levels than I can possibly begin to count.
You know, I understand the problems with it. In reality, of course it is not a power we can trust the government with.
But there’s a lot of days that I’d like to see it happen. Pump something into the water that makes everyone sterile, and take pills dispensed by the government to reverse the effect if you’re approved for children. I mean, you need a license to drive, but fucking up some child and sending them off in the world may be a more dangerous act than driving badly.
I live in Kansas City, and this has been around for ages. We had a Precious Doe poster in the back window of my schoolbus for a while.
The thing that really makes me mad is that there’s a whole group of people who have prayer meetings and memorial services for Precious Doe, and they call her “my baby” and things like that. However, I doubt that any of them have taken in foster children or volunteered at a shelter or anything. They just hang around with their Precious Doe posters and t-shirts and leave offerings at her shrine in the park. These “community leaders” spend more time and effort on one dead child than they do on any number of live children who could probably use that help a lot more than Precious Doe. I mean, I’m glad they figured out who she was, but they aren’t exactly stopping it from happening again.
God, my head hurts.
Reading that story I’m horrified to see that they still haven’t found Rilya Wilson, the little girl that the Florida DCFS fucking lost.
aaaaaaaaaaaargh.
Actually, Rilya’s caretaker has been arrested and charged in her death. The current contention is that DCFS did not lose her, so much as simply stop checking up on her which gave her killer/caretaker a good cover.
Well, that’s much better!

At least someone has been charged in the case.
Of course I don’t think that the State should do that-it would never work. I’m just lamenting that it makes me sad that there are so many assholes out there, who are fertile and end up having kids only to abuse them, while there are others who’d cut off their legs just to have a child, and can’t.
