Being sick is just freaking boring.

So, a few weeks back, I caught a cold. I immediately started with the echinacea, vitamin C and zinc lozenges, and managed to beat it into submission. No big deal, really. The days I was sick were my days off that week, so it didn’t cost me any money.

Except that the cold lingered. I’ve had a low-grade sore throat and slight cough for three weeks now. And yesterday, my Monday (we have personal Mondays and Fridays here in Vegas) I woke up feeling… urky. I called in sick then managed to scurry into the bathroom just in time…
to have the dry heaves. Later, I puked up my tea and toast. I had a cough, and whenever I would cough, it would trigger reverse peristalsis. So, I suppressed the urge to cough as much as possible. This morning, I woke up feeling urky again. Never did talk to Ralph, but I’ve still made sure I have clear access to the Big White Phone. Once my stomach settled down, I started loading my system with Echinacea, C and zinc again. I will beat this thing. I can’t afford to miss any more days of work, dammit, I will beat this thing. I still have a slight cough, which I controlled with cough syrup as soon as I knew my stomach could handle it, and I have found that I can cough without yakking, so I should be OK for work tomorrow.

I have developed a very close relationship with the living room couch. I’ve been watching DS9 and TNG reruns on Spike. (Buffy insert crude jokes here). DS9 is just starting to get into the Dominion war, so it’s still in boring phase. TNG is better, because, well, TNG was better, but it’s all eps I’ve seen before, and if I have to feel urky while I’m watching TV, I’d at least like a chance to see the eps I missed the first time out.

Then there’s the History channel. Um, guys, I’ve seen this ep of “HauntedHistory” about nine times, thanks. SciFi? I am experiencing the wretchedness that was Galactica 1980. I don’t get TNT in well enough to watch Angel (my “cable” comes to me from a leaky something or other via rabbit ears) Cartoon Network doesn’t break out the good stuff until about the time I’d be home from work anyway, so there’s no point in watching and anyway, I don’t get good reception on that channel during the daylight hours.

I’m rereading Gilgamesh, which is short, and I’ve about read most of my personal library to death. Once Gilgamesh is dead and lamented by gods and men, I won’t have much going on in the literary department.

I am so freaking bored…

I know just how you feel. I have had the same thing for almost a month now. I missed work the whole first week of the new year (Doctor’s orders). I had severe dizziness with mine, but very little nausea. I still feel worn out at the end of the day. If you find a cure, please post it.
