Being the last poster of a thread and then it dies

Often, I don’t even dive into a thread with 4 or 5 pages, because whatever I hoped to add was already done by somebody else. There are exceptions, if I’m really interested in it, or it looks amusing.

I usually completely forget I’ve posted in a thread after I post.

I’m sure I’ve killed threads, I just haven’t noticed.

But not this one.

Sorry I’m late to this thread. Y’all can stop now.

I think that happens to me all the time.

Not today.

This seems to happen to me a lot, so I did some data mining just now. Looking at all non-Sticky threads from GQ, GD, Elections, Cafe Society, Game Room, IMHO, Mundane, and Pit which were last bumped between June 16 and June 30, Dopers with five or more kills are:
9 by ftg
9 by Chronos
8 by Elendil’s Heir
7 by Leo Bloom
6 by Nava
6 by MrDibble
6 by DSYoungEsq
6 by Beckdawrek
5 by lingyi
5 by Telemark
5 by Northern Piper
5 by Colibri
I was pleased to note that I had only 3 kills during that interval. The list is of course unfair to Mods who are credited with a Kill when they close a thread.

I feel like this happens to me a lot. Maybe I’m not the LAST one, but I’ll say something I think is relevant or witty, and there’s only one or two more comments… nada…

And I killed this one, too…

No, i did

Yeah, right.

Is there a limit to how many times we can post in this thread?

Stop, i am busy trying to kill the thread

I have an AED and I’m not afraid to use it.

Hah! I farted! You do NOT wanna be here!

[Darth Vader-like breathing] I have a gas mask. [/DV-lb]

Toot, you are my farter.

I just wanted to give you acknowledgement for this. A week later.

The WHO just added gaming addiction to their disease list. Also sex addiction. While they’re at it, how about THREAD KILLING ANXIETY DISORDER.

It’s up there with “I posted something on Facebook and it didn’t get a single like in two hours so now I have to delete it” syndrome.

I’ve never killed a thread
Though I have watched several die
No, I’ve never killed a thread
and I’ve never told a lie.

A similar but somehow even more depressing case is when I kill a thread, but it seems it was only “mostly dead”. Someone two weeks later comes along and revives it, which is bad enough, but then they ignore my last post! And then it gets new life, but no one discusses my comment.
