Her page on wikipedia doesn’t make any mention of her ever being blacklisted, or of there being any controversy around Summer Rain. There also doesn’t appear to be any big interruption in her career, U.S. or otherwise.
To be honest, while Youtube is great for videos, comparing the comments section to monkeys flinging poo would be a disservice to monkeys.
Yes, I considered that, and I did check Wikipedia, but it seems odd that the YouTube video was closed to further comments (despite over 1,000 views) after a single negative and seemingly nonsensical comment, so I was wondering if there might be something more to it.
I don’t know about any controversy~ but hey, thanks for linking to a Belinda Carlisle video I’ve never seen before! There’s always room in my life for more Belinda Carlisle!
Just googling around, all I see about the blacklisting are repeated references on a variety of sites that allow user comments, but all seem to come from the same person. Lots of identical reviews of her greatest hits album, for example. It might be one person trying to create some very odd rumour.
Or maybe MTV actually looked at the awful frumpy dress she was wearing in that video and realized she was too old for their audience.
My connection is way to slow to attempt to play any YouTube things over a minute or so long, so I was just wondering if that was a remake of the old Jonny Rivers song. He did have a song called “Summer Rain,” right? The one in which somebody “kept playin ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.”
Thanks for the research, jacquilynne. How bizarre. I wonder why someone would want to start ridiculous rumors about a pop singer who hasn’t had a U.S. hit in almost twenty years. Eh. It takes all kinds, I guess.
I have to admit that this song that I never heard in its heyday is rapidly growing on me, though!
Isn’t it obvious? No mostly nekkid hos. No bling. No hot cars. No one even has a tattoo for God’s sake! Belinda is lucky MTV didn’t put a hit out on her.
Actually, I’m really surprised that this great song flew under my radar. Like, neutron star, this song is growing on me fast.
