What? No 'Bluntman and Chronic" jokes?
Yeah, I thought the only reason Affleck was making DareDevil was because Kevin Smith was involved with it somehow. I could be completely wrong as I don’t follow comics but that’s the impression I got from a quick glance at the View Askew board. (I was looking for info on the Clerks animated movie.)
I actually like Affleck now BECAUSE of his work in Smith’s movies. He seems to have a sense of humor about himself, which is pretty appealing. He’s not my cup of tea but I can see how some women (and men) might find him attractive. The appeal of Matt Damon, however, I’ll never understand.
I heard that Matt Damon was actually considered for the role of DD. This thread about Afflek playing the part is the first I’d heard of it.
Why the hell is it that I started this exact same thread like 2 weeks ago and no one gave a shit?

(watch this thread sink into the SDMB abyss now…)
From Fenris: this was in a response to a question about whether Unstable-Molecule treated cloth was tougher than spandex. Dammit I want nested quotes back.
Actually not quite.
This is some weird idea that cropped up during the later part of Claremont’s X-Men run (he had someone give their costume to a cop who used it as a bullet-proof vest) and he said that the stuff was untearable and dirt-proof too. Plus he had it “heal” when it actually WAS torn. Given the way he used it as a deus ex machina, I’m surprised that he didn’t make the stuff sentient.
However, when Reed discovered the stuff (by looking at the outfits that they were wearing when they took the rocket-ship ride that turned them into the FF- See Fantastic Four Annual 1, 196x IIRC) and for decades (literally) afterwards, the only thing that unstable-molecule treated cloth did was to adapt to powers: it reacted to whatever energy super-types used to change to become fire, become invisible, or whatever. It didn’t make the cloth inherently tougher. There were plenty of instances of the FF and Avenger’s uniforms getting torn, etc.
And it’s an addition I don’t like. If the stuff is as tough (bullet-proof, completely fire retardant, water-tight) as Claremont made it, why wouldn’t everyone wear unstable molecule-treated cloth all the time? It’s too damned useful the way Claremont wrote it. Every cop and soldier in the world would love to have a compeletely bullet-proof outfit that feels like a regular shirt. And it’s not as if the stuff were prohibitively expensive to produce, given that Sue and the Wasp have probably thousands of outfits between them treated with the stuff.
There’s a bit that always stuck in my mind: Reed picks up one of his old uniforms (that’s tattered and ripped) but once he picks it up, it’s able to stretch (somewhere around **FF #405-410)
And back on topic, the DD outfit looks terrible, IMO. Sculpted leather body armor (with nipples)? That’s the thing to wear if you want maximum freedom of movement  I didn’t like the look in Batman and I don’t like it now. DD should look sleek and nimble, not like someone dressed like a SWAT team.
Fenris
Oh GREAT casting, studio. The last great franchise falls.
So who will they get to play Electra? Shannon Elizabeth?
oh please oh please oh please
Just kidding
I think the DD costume looks okay. It seems to have a little bit of sculpted muscle in the torso, but nothing as extreme as Batman. It doesn’t look like leather, though. I have a pair of latex pants that look exactly like that.
Elektra is being played by the girl from Alias - I think her name is Jennifer Garner or something similar. Pretty girl, but she doesn’t look the least bit Greek, which is kinda important to Elektra’s character.
affleck has a huge friggin head, that’s really all i remember about “reindeer games.”
but the molded suit doesn’t look bad. all i’ve seen is that once pic, but other than a help in the chest and oblique area (sorry if my anatomy is wrong) it looks pretty sleek. it’s no batman, that’s for sure. that suit looked ridiculous.
i have a decent daredevil collection, but he was never one of my favorites. i liked the gritty aspect of the comic. when he tangled with the rank-and-file superheros and villains it got a little hard to believe, though.
And Jennifer Garner doesn’t look Greek in what way, pray tell?

You are the wind beneath my wings.
Actually, I have the reverse feeling: I’ve got a Daredevil collection that goes back to issue 8 and while I love the stories of the grim-n-gritty guy who took on organized crime that Frank Miller wrote about, I have no idea who he is.
Daredevil is a happy-go-lucky, kinda wacky super-hero. One of my favorite moments is when he realized he was in love with the Black Widow and went bouncing through the streets of San Francisco singing “Good Day, Sunshine” circa Daredevil #80, 1967 or so). Before that, he even adopted a third identity ‘cause Matt Murdock was “too square”. Anyone remember the Swingin’ Mike Murdock/Matt Murdock/DareDevil/Karen Page love-quadrilateral?
The grim-n-gritty guy in the red suit is a fascinating character and he’s had some great stories told about him, but to me (and I realize I’m more-or-less alone in this) he’s not really Daredevil.

Oh, I dunno…maybe the same way that Heath Ledger doesn’t look Italian and Mel Gibson doesn’t look Turkish. Ms Garner’s facial features, hair color and complexion all point to a northern European heritage, not a Mediterranean one. I’m not sure how effective she’ll be playing a character who is supposed to be (from the source material, the comic book) Greek, the daughter of a wealthy Greek diplomat. I’m thinking that maybe a Greek actress should’ve been hired for the job.
So, what were you suggesting in your reply, pray tell? Do you know something about Ms Garner’s ancestry, or were you making a juvenile attempt at humor based on the word “Greek”?
apparently, your daredevil collection is a bit more “decent” than mine.
yeah, i started collecting in my grade school days, probably 1987 or so. so yeah, that’s the daredevil i know. 1987-1994.
i had no idea that he was ever NOT the gritty, tormented guy.
learn something new every day, i guess.
