Ben Affleck to play Batman

Indeed.

FWIW: I find Affleck to be a distractingly bad actor as well. And I have a pretty high tolerance for that kind of thing (I don’t mind Keanu Reeves or Nic Cage), and even actors I do find bad (the aforementioned Henry Cavill), I can usually just ignore it (especially in superhero movies, where the acting usually isn’t really the point anyways). But for some reason, Affleck just stands out as distractingly bad, at least in the movies I’ve seen him in.

(and I don’t even know why we’re supposed to be angry about “bennifer”, so I’m sure that’s not it)

Exactly. And we’re talking about a Superman who dealt with his first enemy by killing him. I guess we need Batman here because Superman is dumb.

So what you’re saying is Keanu Reeves should play it?

Tssk. Holden pencils Bluntman, he doesn’t play him.

They should get that guy…the Pie-Fucker!

I was excited for a minute!

Then I realized that they aren’t actually replacing Snyder with Affleck.

(Seriously, though, I’m sure Affleck will do a solid job. Worry more about the guys behind the camera, whose recent resume entries are significantly crappier.)

Mohagen weighs in.

That would be the best possible option, here.

Ah, well. Yet another reason to not bother with DC movies for the foreseeable future.

Now that you mention it, he did, sort-of. Affleck played George Reeves (quite well, I thought) in Hollywoodland. I could see him playing Superman, instead of playing a guy who was playing Superman.

I’d rather see Joseph Gordon Leavitt as Batman. Or Matt Damon. And I don’t hate Affleck, particularly. Haven’t liked a big screen treatment of superman since Christopher Reeve

They could get Steve Buscemi to be Batman and I wouldn’t give a shit if the movie was good.

You see! It’s never “Hey! You’re that guy from ‘Loser!’” or “Hey, you rocked in ‘Boys and Girls.’” No, it always comes back to that fucking pie! I’m HAUNTED by it!

At the time, Ledger was much more of an unknown quantity than Affleck currently is.

I sort of want to know why DC isn’t making a straight Superman sequel. Man of Steel did well at the box office - do they really think can’t make the next one successful without adding Batman?

It’s the other way around. They’ve finally got a success in Man of Steel that they can hitch their wagon to. Green Lantern was supposed to be that success but it bombed. Nolan’s Batman was a non-starter for a “phase one” franchise builder because it was effectively over. WB is taking the most direct, promising, and lucrative path towards a Justice League franchise.

How appropriate that this reply would come from Happy Scrappy Hero Pup.

I think they should have casted a relative unknown. People won’t be able to separate Affleck from the role, just like I couldn’t help but see Clooney’s smirk when he was Batman. That’s why I think this is a bad idea, not because I have some kind of Affleck hate

Do you really think the direction they’re taking these movies in is going to lead to a successful portrayal of other JL members? A good Flash? A good Wonder Woman? Really?

You know what would be awesome? Ben Affleck as Batman '66.

How do we fix it? Do we say “you know what” three times?

I had trouble seeing Bale as the jaded playboy, but I can see Affleck better in that role. Start with that portrayal in the movie, then have him be Batman as the detective who finds the kinks in the villain’s armor. Something like Bartelby being pissed at how people make bad choices and the worst needing a Batman to stop them.

Batman is in the Cave and has lots of screens showing the villain’s history, newspaper clippings, closed-circuit videos, etc. He connects some scans and creates a waveform. Then Superman and Batman rendezvous at the villain’s impregnable front door. Superman starts hitting it, and denting it while using heat vision. Then Batman holds up a hand for him to to stop. Batman takes out a remote, presses a button, the waveform appears on the display, and the door opens.

I hate that it’s so simplistic, but it’s just a thought. Show them to be more than just fighters and to work as a team.
