Ben Affleck to play Batman

I think Affleck can pull it off, but I, too, would rather the role go to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, given the setup with his tough young cop character at the end of the last movie.

And I didn’t really mind Daredevil. It had its moments.

What’s the deal with the plethora of actors playing Batman anyway? Is that an intended paradigm? Or are these actors basically throwing their hands up in the air and saying “Screw that, I’m not doing that shit again.”?

A see what you did there.

Caveats: I think Ben Affleck is a fine actor. I liked his Daredevil. I liked Michael Keaton’s Batman.

He’s a mediocre actor with a limited range. But lets be honest, Batman doesn’t require a lot of range. Really, it’s a bad idea just because it’s a bad idea in general, regardless of who is cast.

Stranger

Hilarious. I remember the outrage. We had no idea.

The funny thing is that Affleck, in Hollywoodland, kind of played a much better Superman than the one he will be playing with in this movie.

Pretending my opinion matters, here’s what I think:

Most DC superheroes are very simplistically written, so you don’t need great actors to play what are largely one-note characters.

It seems like the Director flipped through a gossip magazine until he stumbled on a big-chested big-chinned actor and said “What about that guy? He kind of looks like Batman,” and then never bothered to change his mind.

I hate Zack Snyder’s films, so I’m not going to watch it anyway, therefore I really don’t give a crap.

Agreed.

I’ve been thinking about this, and even though my initial reaction was negative, and I don’t like much of what he has done, someone pointed out Michael Keaton.

I thought he was just fine as Batman. I think he’s an underrated actor, and I thought his performance in Beetlejuice was Oscar-worthy (no, I’m not kidding). He is believable as Bruce Wayne, which is why Batman worked with him in the movie.

I think Affleck will similarly be believable as Wayne. The mask and costume helps every actor blend into Batman with little effort.

i believe the biggest problem with this movie is over-saturation. Batman, I feel, has run its course. Superhero movies IMO have run their course. I know a studio feels they can squeeze one more hit on the familiarity factor, but i don’t know… I have no real desire to see another Batman, so I’m not sure if ANY actor named would have impressed me.

I prefer my superhero movies where the main heroes/villains are played by not so well known, but up and coming actors. The exception of course Patrick Stewart as ProfX, and Heath Ledger nailed it as the joker.

No, no. They’re not trying to squeeze out one more hit. They’re trying to start a mega-franchise. Unless fan support totally collapses, there are going to be lots more of these from both DC and Marvel. If you’re sick of it now, you will be sicker of it in the future.

I could see Affleck as Batboy

I’d like to see Jimmy Kimmel as Robin. And Batman could be investigating a wave of dead hookers found in the vicinity of Gotham City Movie Studios.

If you can get Sarah Silverman as Batgirl, I think we have ourselves a movie.

Well, okay, but it you’re going to do that, you absolutely have to have Matt Damon somewhere in there.

Just for the initial introductory shot where Batman discovers Damon making out with Silverman.

Let me add, this inspired me to review the “I’m f@cking Matt Damon/Ben Affleck” things and holy crap are those funny.

And the talent appearing on the second one is amazing.

What I want to know is, when is there going to be an Affleck-AFLAC tie-in? I can’t be the only one thinking this is a match made in madmen heaven - especially with this new role for Ben. Get the duck dressed up in a cape and mask . . .

Come on, tell me you can’t see it.

I was under the impression they were setting him up to be Robin in the last movie.

I think the idea people had was that Nolan had used the reveal in the near-final scene to gesture at homage to the Robin character without actually having a costumed Robin in the series. Then at the end, it seems he is being invited to take up the actual Batman mantle–which is in keeping (apparently? I never read the comics) with something that happened in some continuity or other.

Not another Batman movie… :frowning:
