Ben Carson: Hitler is Coming

Sounds like George Orwell to me, who, as I recall, was also a conservative brain surgeon.

This process of self-elimination is why we can’t have a nice Republican President.
He suggested that there is already somebody currently in the United States who is like Adolf Hitler. But is it Obama? No, of course not!

“I’m not going to go into that that. I think that example is pretty clear,” Carson said when asked this question. When pressed, he denied that he was implying Obama was like Hitler. “No. I am saying in a situation where people do not express themselves, bad things can happen.”
Apparently Carson and Trump have similar modus operandi. Carson knows who the Hitler threat is. Trump knows how to make the economy great, replace Obamacare with something terrific, and Make a Deal™ with all foreign leaders to make them do what he wants. But in all cases, it’s a secret! You have to elect them to find out!

I say vote for Trump. You get three secrets for just one vote.

Well, thanks, all. It looks like it IS another variation on the “overly-PC” idea. Looked like it might be something different at first.

If Carson’s pre-op consultations were anything like his speeches or debates, it’s a miracle anybody ever submitted to his knife.

Hey, it worked for Nixon. (Interestingly, Nixon never said he had a secret plan to end the Vietnam war, but he never corrected the editors that had gotten that impression, Nixon just manipulated the doves while assuring the hawks)

He put them to sleep. No need for anesthesia.

Yep. And Nixon actually got re-elected, so everyone got to find out the Secret. The Secret, as it turned out, was that Nixon was a crook.

I’m pretty sure this comes from his religion. My wife is also SDA and also says Hitler is coming. They don’t know who it is, but America falling into totalitarianism seems to be part of their mythology, even though it’s not based on anything biblical as far as I can tell unless they are referring to the antichrist. That probably is what they are thinking actually, but it’s not like you can stop the antichrist. That’s part of God’s plan. So why worry about it?

SDA?

Seventh Day Adventists

Okay, but a lot of functioning (if not particularly reflective) adults who aren’t SDA believe this stuff. Why? What leads people who live every day in this country, who watch (some version of) the news, who talk to people, who use the internet daily to say things like “Obama wants to make free speech illegal” and mean it? Where does the impetus to promulgate these ideas come from? Is it that the specific meanings of words don’t register or matter to them, is it just intellectual laziness and unwillingness to think about these contentions before repeating them, or is it something else?

It’s because Obama has been so rude as to deprive them of real world things to hate him for. Their amygdala tells them he is too different to be trusted, yet they struggle to find a rational basis for their loathing. This cognitive dissonance forces them to create fictional offenses to justify their primal revulsion; otherwise, they would have to face the truth that their fundamental beliefs are wrong.

In the Not Quite Getting The Problem Department, Carson would not go meet with the families of the Umpqua victims:

Yes, there will be a next one, and soon. At least he has that right. But *why *skip this one, really?

Well, screw you too, buddy, but at least you’re not running.

And, in a similar vein:

First, do no harm, Doctor.

To illustrate that he’s never going to get it anyway:

No, it isn’t close.

And, yet, he’s second in the polls.

Mr. GeniusL1ves, is not even close.

Do not mangle other poster’s usernames outside The BBQ Pit.

Knock it off.

Wait, Carson isn’t telling us that he’s the “Hitler”? Are you sure?

Given his background, it’s possible he really meant Obama is the Antichrist, like so many of his fellow Believers.

That belief isn’t nearly as prevalent as it was in 2009, at least in my limited experience. I think even the irrational ones have to look at what Obama has done the last 7 years and realize it hasn’t been that bad.

The same people claimed Bill Clinton was the Antichrist, and will no doubt claim Hillary is too. It would be laughable if it weren’t so prevalent.
