Bernie Sanders Fans Plan DNC "Fart-In"

What part of “Hillary won and Bernie lost” … ?

Hillary would be against those planks if Bernie didn’t make her swallow them?

What part of “we will ge President Trump if you Bernie supporters don’t vote for Hillary…?”

Their factions argued over them, so I presume she at least was not supporting some of them in the form he originally sought. Whether that’s because she wanted a different approach on these issues, or felt that including them was premature or handed political opponents ammunition to use against Democrats, I don’t know. I would imagine that she personally favors most of these ideas, but they were generally not things she was pushing in her campaign, while Sanders was.

The truth is, there’s really not that much gap between Hillary and Bernie’s positions on most things, so you have to look at the details to see why one or the other would or would not favor a particular plank. The differences are more in implementation goals than concept–Bernie wants big changes, fast, while Hillary looks for incremental progress. There are some actual ideological gaps, but they’re not necessarily things that could be put into a pithy plank.

The point is that some planks were added because Sanders wanted them. Not everything that a candidate–even the winning candidate–wants goes into the platform. These planks were added because Sanders was advocating for them, and the platform committee made concessions to his faction.

If anyone here thinks that the Dem Party platform creation was a sordid and ugly affair, you really don’t want to look at the other one. Trust me on this, don’t!

Sarah Silverman answered that one already.

From Ballots and Bandits:

[Quote=Keith Laumer]

“But remember,” Retief cautioned, “You’ll be expected to stand on your Party Platform–at least for the first few weeks.”

“W-weeks?” Hoobrik faltered. “What is this platform, Retief?”

“It’s a pretty shaky structure,” Retief confided. “I’ve never known one to last past the first Legislative Rebuff.”

So - was there one big smell-in?

There was not, there was never going to be, the entire premise is ridiculous. A “fart in” protest? C’mon.
