Best 9-11 Real Time Reporting Award Goes to....HOWARD STERN

I ran into this just prior 9-11-2011–ten years later. This is audio only on youtube but I’m sure you can find sound files elsewhere.

I was surprised too.

So if you care to…

Totally agreed. Those guys were “one of us” as that all played out, and a bunch of their local call-in regulars reported from the ground. I can’t bring myself to relive any of it, so I’m not going to listen to this again, but I remember being riveted to that show when it happened.

I was in the Pentagon listening to Stern when all shit broke loose, thanks to hearing him I instantly knew what was happening and was able to help everyone a lot faster.

I have a lot of respect for Howard Stern but am not a “fan.” “Butt Bongo” didn’t do it for me.

That being said, I happened into his program just after his station was sued for censorship infractions or something and he had decided to go satellite. He was making a tough PATRIOTIC decision. One could feel his pain. He supported The Constitution with his move. THAT is a program I’d listen to again, but, what, that was 15 years ago?

If Howard Stern isn’t your thing, the Democracy Now! broadcast from 9/11 is also pretty interesting. Their studio was close enough that if you listen closely you can actually hear one of the planes hitting the tower.

I remember that. To make it short, I recorded Howard Stern’s radio show on cassettes off a boombox for someone for a while, around that time. I didn’t listen to the show as a rule, but that day the sound was turned up a little. and as I was puttering around the house, I heard a lot of excitement and thought “what is UP with them today??” Turned up the sound and…they did quite a job that day!

I am not a fan of Mancow, but I was listening to him on my way from Milwaukee to Madison on the morning of 9/11. I still remember the terror in his voice (I think he was broadcasting from the Sears Tower).

This morning I was listening to MSNBC on satellite radio on my way to work, and at 8:45 they started re-playing the 9/11 NBC/Today show broadcast, which I was watching live when it happened. I cried all the way to work and had to sit in the parking garage and compose myself before coming into work.
