Best and or fastest way to increase your verticle?

Jumping rope, stairs, calf lifts, squats, stretching, running, biking, etc.
What is the best way to increase your jumping ability?
Does most of the lift come from the calf muscles or the thighs or a combo?
What sort of excersise routine would accomplish the best results?

Our volleyball coach relied on plyometrics and weight training. A google search of plyometrics should give you a good run down on the types of exercises.

I’d reccomend plyometric exercise.

In high school a friend of mine bought a pair of those training shoes with the weird looking platform under the ball of the foot (I think they were in that Seinfeld episode with “Jimmy”).

His vert increased 6-8 nches in about 3 weeks! It was most impressive!
