Best and Worst Appetizer?

He made a yummy sound, again!

I like sour cream and French onion soup mix dip but not with potato chips. Those are too brittle. I had that dip with Fritos, preferably the scoop type.

And not necessarily as an appetizer. That was dinner sometimes.

Garlic knots are a prank by Italian restaurants to get rid of old pizza dough. Heavy, dense, oily and not particularly garlic flavored, they will remain in your stomach, undigested, for days.

I’ve had this one appetizer all the time provided to me at work lunches but I never like it and her it’s like the #1 most provided work lunch appetizer and I still don’t know the proper name.

But it’s like if you took a burrito, put lettuce, tomatoes, onions, ham, and I think some kind of solid cheese, and then you cut the burrito into hockey puck sized portions and served them?

I think those are the pinwheels mentioned upthread. I like them alright but they do need a little dressing.

I’d guess the difference is the added fat (usually mayo). I mean, Deviled eggs are just hard boiled eggs with mayo and some spice (maybe) added.

Deviled eggs are all about how you make the filling. I’ve put bacon bits in mine and got raves.

Usually I see them with some sort of pickle relish or chopped pickles. Those aren’t my favorite, but I still like them. Mind you, I love eggs in any form, so YMMV

Plain hardboiled eggs are just so blah for me. I never eat them. I’ll nom on deviled eggs all day long.

Now I’m thinking about what to make for New Year’s Eve.

[Googles] Y’know, done well, that could be rather tasty.

ETA: Well, if it’s the result I got via Google:

"What is in a St Louis sushi roll?

“St. Louis Roll. Salmon, cream cheese, crab and honey that’s fried in tempura batter.”

Not that HBO horror.

You ought to try free-range duck eggs – the flavor is way better than supermarket hen’s eggs.

Heh, we had those! Because my brother had pet ducks, and they were all female. But this is when we were kids and a bit squeamish, so we only used the duck eggs for baking.

Oh, and those ducks were definitely free range on their half of the backyard.

There are a couple of places I can get them around here, not all the time, and they’re considerably more expensive than supermarket eggs, but I do treat myself now and then. I’m actually happy to have them just hard-boiled, peeled and eaten like that, not even salted, just to savor the EGG!!!-yness of their flavor.

I like bacon-wait–scratch THAT.

I LOVE BACON.

But I don’t like bacon wrapped seafood because --for me at least—the strong tasty fat filled BACON overwhelms the taste of everything and I can’t fully appreciate the taste of shrimp or scallops(both of which I enjoy on their own).

Sometimes people dip bacon in chocolate. Though it is okay, it basically seems like a waste of both bacon and chocolate.

Salty and sweet things work well together (think Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups). Not saying bacon is the best way to go here but I can see it.

Yes, I was piling on hate for pinwheels. If you aren’t certain it’s what we’re talking about, here’s an representative image:

Ah! Those things. Not a fan. I do not hate them but…meh. Always disappointing. Not worth the effort to make IMO.

That’s why whoever is in charge of the snacks for this shindig farms the job out to the local grocery, who don’t give a shit what it tastes like. They figure either a) everybody will be so drunk they can’t taste anything, or b) everybody will have forgotten how lousy it tasted by next year. Hell, by tomorrow.

You mean Minnesota Sushi. That’s what we call it and it’s always on the same table as the tater tot hot dish.
