Inspired by this thread, what’s the coolest anniversary gift you’ve given/gotten?
Welbywife and I just celebrated #4 recently, and I just got her present back from the jewelers. My present is ultra-cool, as is the story behind it.
In the months prior to our first anniversary I took on a lot of odd computer jobs to save up the money for the bracelet that I finally gave Welbywife. I designed the bracelet myself and had a jeweler finish it out so that it looked good and make it for me in white gold. In the center of the bracelet was a single diamond.
Year two I snuck the bracelet off of her hand while she was sleeping and met the jeweler at his shop at 6AM. An hour later I was at home, the bracelet was on her arm, and diamond number two was there. It took her 3 days to notice. She totally froke out when she did though.
Year three and four I didn’t sneak it off, but I’ve added a diamond for both anniversaries. This was the plan from the start. The bracelet has enough room for exactly 20 diamonds. I haven’t the foggiest clue how I’ll top that, but I’ve got 16 years to come up with something.
Let’s hear 'em boys and girls, anyone gotten or done something cool?
For our second anniversary, my boyfriend gave me a book of love poems by Pablo Neruda right before we headed out for dinner. Thinking that the gift part of the evening was over, I was totally shocked when we wen’t out my door to find 10 guys standing in our driveway from our high school men’s choral ensemble (I guess I forgot to mention that we’re 18). Anyway, my boyfriend’s little brother sings in the group, and he arranged a version of “Crash” by Dave Matthews (one of my favorite songs) for the group. All the neighbours came outside and watched while I was serenaded. It was an awesome gift that I’ll never forget.
“IOU 4 Disney Cruise Line Tickets” It will be signed, dated & in the card envelope of the flowers I give her. But she’ll still get the 4-lb box of Godivas…
My parents gave us a really fun gift for our first anniversary. Two motnhs after we got married, we moved out of state for my husband’s law school, so we were only home twice a year after that.
My parents wanted to send us some money, but also a fun gift for the “paper” anniversary. So, they went to the bank and got 100 $1 bills. Then, they got all the funky paper products they could find- toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, paper plates, streamers, toys, etc, and hid the dollar bills in and around them.
Not only did it take us about an hour to finish “opening” the gift, but we needed all that stuff! It was such fun! My parents rule!
