Best Beatles Song?

John Lennon: In My Life – Honorable mentions: A Day in the Life + Norwegian Wood

Paul McCartney: Here, There and Everywhere – Honorable mentions: Let It Be + Eleanor Rigby

George Harrison: Something – Honorable mention: Here Comes the Sun

Ringo Starr: Octopus’ Garden

Yeah, I should have been more specific; it was the country sound and story telling that I was looking for. Considering I only recognize one song on those two list, it looks like I’ll be getting some new music this weekend. Thanks!

Amazing and powerful popular song: Eleanor Rigby
Amazing idiosyncratic song: Strawberry Fields Forever
Stuck in my head for 20 years: Julia
Amazing, uh, George Harrison song: Here Comes the Sun

Single best: Strawberry Fields (shrug).

I could never pick - it would be a futile exercise.

My favorite Beatles’ album, however (which is my favorite album ever, and, objectively ;) the greatest album ever recorded - I swear!), is Revolver

I would vote for Daytripper

‘Things We Said Today’ is as tight of a little song that has ever been.

I think I’d have to go with that one, too.

Honorable mentions to “Ticket to Ride” and “Here Comes the Sun.”

Well right now it is The End.

Nine To The Sky:

Sounded to me like Ximenean said “I Feel Fine” and just listed “Hey Jude” in a list of other (but lesser) favorites.

I grew up listening to the Beatles. Am 56 years old now (sigh).
The song that’s the most fun to sing along to is “I saw her standing there”
The best song to listen to loudly in a car with the windows down is original “Revolution”
The song that means the most personally to me is “In My Life”
Don’t know which is their best song.

Now I’m wavering between “If I Fell” and “Lady Madonna.”

Eleanor Rigby. Having the chorus in the background at the end taps into the universal poignancy they already tap by singing in the Emo Key and applies it to the whole of creation.

My vote… You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away from the Help! album.

I’d say “In My Life,” or “Elinore Rigby”

We’re all heard it so many times that it’s pretty much become nothing more than audio wallpaper, but “Yesterday” just may be the most perfect song ever written. A flawless match of music and lyrics, with a melody that would have done Mozart proud. McCartney has said the song came to him, fully formed, in a dream, and he figured that it couldn’t possibly be original; he assumed he must have heard it somewhere before. I can understand his concern; it’s hard to imagine that there was a time when that melody didn’t exist!

OK, Holy Smokes!

I didn’t think that there would be THIS MUCH variety! I’m gonna quit counting now.

So far, this is what we’ve got. I tried my best to collate, but some of you cheeky monkeys could not stop at 1, so I did my best.

This is really hard. I’ll have to go with “In My Life”.

But I want to give some love to “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”, “Let It Be”, “Eleanor Rigby”, “Here Comes The Sun”, “It’s All Too Much” and “Happiness Is A Warm Gun”.

Yup yup.

As for the best song so far (this is hard to choose), I’m teetering between “There’s a Place” and “And I Love Her.” Both are completely magnificent.

Just because I’ll be the only one to throw these out…

I’m torn between “Happiness is a Warm Gun” and “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road”.
[sub]But really, Yer Blues might be my pick at the moment.[/sub]

I came on here to nominate this one. John barking at the end is priceless. I will also add Don’t Bother Me, an early George Harrison contribution.
