I just tried this out. It’s da bomb!
Heh. Oh, that looks like evil fun.
Looks like fun.
My favorite Clippy line is
Well, not computer, as such.
(warning, the link is to a less than civilized message board)
Step 1: take screenshot of user’s desktop, including taskbar, icons etc.
Step 2: set the screenshot as the user’s background.
Step 3: hide the user’s taskbar. Maybe consider moving it to the top first.
Step 4: watch them clicking randomly, hoping they don’t unhide the taskbar.
I’ve always been tempted to tamper with MS Word’s autocorrect settings, but there are one or two people at work who would take it seriously.
replace ‘the’ with ‘teh’
replace ‘thanks’ with ‘thnaks’
replace ‘best’ with ‘bset’
replace ‘looks’ with ‘lkooks’
actually… come to think of it… I think someone already did this on my boss’ computer!
i don’t get it. O.o
Did you carry on reading after page one?
Ok so it’s an ‘external’ computer prank. But it’s still an excelent prank.
We did this to my room mate’s entire half of the room. Only with plastic wrap. And did everything. Even an individual stick of gum on his desk, even indivitual pennies in his drawers. Every single peice of clothing. Attention to detail is what counts with this stuff.
Can you explain Step 1 in detail? I don’t know how to take a snapshot of the desktop or the current screen or anything.
On my machine, I’d press CTRL + PRINT SCRN, then paste it into an image editing program (even Microsoft Paint will do) and save it. Set it as the desktop wallpaper the usual way. Auto-hiding the taskbar is via the taskbar properties menu.
Usually you press the botton that says “scn sht” or “print scrn” or something like that. (It’s usually up by F12, above “Insert,” “Home,” “Page Up.”)
Then go into a program like paint or something, and go: edit, paste. Viola, picture of the screen
no i didn’t go beyond page five. it just seems like so much work for (since i don’t get it) so little gain. shrugs
On a Windows machine, use the key combination <ALT>-<PrintSCR> to take a “snapshot” of the screen. (Make sure there are no open windows or dialog boxes.) Now open a graphic program and paste the image you just created as a new image. Using the graphics program, save it as the background image.
Sometimes the essence of a good prank is “so much work for so little gain”. Don’t ask me how or why.
well it’s not funny to me but it is amazing though.
Well, it’s better than some of the computer pranks that have happened at work. Like putting 1000 or so .doc files into the startup folder, setting the mouse speed to the lowest setting…
This is one of my favorites. Except we took it to another level: We’d set it up to replace the computer users name with a name plus nickname, i.e. Mike Jones would autocorrect to Mike “I eat cock” Jones. Marketing Department would autocorrect to… well shoot. I can’t remember what that would become. But it was funny, I assure you.
Kinda risky, I know, but terrible fun. We were the editing department so we always checked things over, so nothing ever went out like that.
Another favorite was switching the functionality of the left and right mouse buttons.
When doing this prank (it’s an old one, BTW), you’ll get better milage if you remove all the desktop icons to a folder hidden elsewhere, and dock the taskbar to the top of the screen (or to the bottom, if it started at the top). This removes most of the functionality on the desktop, and puts the taskbar where it’s rather unlikely to be found save by random accident. Lastly, if you’re really evil, swap the mouse button functions, and set the doubleclick speed to either warp-speed fast, or really damn slow - Either extreme will produce some entertainment. I personally prefer warp-speed fast - Makes it almost imposible to launch things by doubleclicking.
Yes, I’ve given this some thought, and I’ve used it on sufficiently annoying lusers. Be prepared for howls to the helldesk.
The security measures are so tight here at work that you can not get into another person’s computer to do any such pranks. All desktops must be locked before leaving your desk. I really wish I could do some of these pranks though.
I think the only prank we pulled was on my old boss. We used rubber bands on his desk chair and attached them to his desk legs so when he pulled out the chair it just snapped back.
This is hilarious. I have already email the person here in the office that usually has all the information on department birthdays that we need to do this but with Happy Birthday wrapping paper
